finally got my LWB going after several months of it sitting.

on the victory drive to pick up my daughter from daycare, the transmission failed on the way home.

yay.

transmission whines likes a banshee and shudders before allowing RPM's to sail freely across the tachometer with no regard to the goal of attaining forward movement.

:nuke: :nuke: :nuke: :vader2:

happy saint patricks day!!!!

check Will (http://www.discoweb.org/forums/showthread.php?t=17844) This'll work in LWB, right?

I feel your pain, my trail rig isn't in much better condition. Just for laughs, later today, I may check the oil pressure and compression. Why not, the tranny and t-case are both shot, might as well see if the engine is in as bad of condition.

I will not give up and find another truck to build into a trail rig!!!! :flipoff2:

Flexplate toasted? It's a GBP 18 part...

Some may recall I was chasing strange vibes at ~3,500 RPM in my P38. Turned out the be the flexplate. LR used to little torque on the bolts to the torque converter prior to 1998. I didn't lose drive, but I think I was close. Flexplate is in four parts. Unfortunately it took the spigot bush and torque converter with it. A $4,000 part if you get it from LR. I didn't... Ashcroft have them rebuilt for a fraction.

update: after letting it sit for a couple of hours, i fired it back up and it moves again - could be fluid 'n filter, could be 200k on the trans. either way i'm done with it ... who wants a cheap LWB?

:shaking: sad but true - i drove away yesterday in one of these. i'm done with my rovers for awhile until i have my business up and going and there's more time. they'll be up for sale in the near future.

been a nice time on the board here. maybe i'll return in a year or two with a new buildup when i have time and energy to mess with 'em again. on first drive the rubi has shit for clearance under the frame compared to the rover. but it runs, has a warranty, and i won't even have to change the oil which will all be a nice change of pace compared to the past 5 years. that new 6-speed manual is sweet!

Paul, when we gonna christen this thing in OR? let me know when you get your heads on straight :flipoff2: :flipoff2: i'll be itchin' for a road trip after a few bolt-ons.

cheers

sad but true - here's a real pic:

http://www.speakeasy.org/~thefains/img/roverPics/newrover.gif

hey if rover sold an equivelent, it'd cost 2x the price and half the equipment. the LR3 is a flaming heap of shit. going to miss my rangie though. i don't think this rubi will wheel nearly as well. it's got excellent gearing - 73:1 crawl in stock form. i like the idea of being able to keep the bodywork off the rocks for a change. few bolt-ons and i'll get to wheel a lot more instead of the other way around.

I'd like to sell Gatsby off to someone who can appreciate the mods / work that's been done to it and won't simply just part it out. it's a great wheeler as it sits, but the motor is cranky and won't pass emissions (which is why i was going to do the diesel swap). it also stopped running mysteriously - have to see if i can get it started backup to eliminate the mystery there. probably a bad fuel filter or something else stupid.

i'll be back around someday hopefully with some cool tech and a good buildup. my dream rig is a 100" defender with a 2.8; i don't have the time to build my dream rig, and the two i have are a constant distraction. after today i relegate myself to the peanut gallery  ... :( looking forward to popping this things cherry on saturday. only a 100mi on the clock - time to find some trails and see about this whole "rated" thing

Cool. I sometimes regret selling off my Wrangler.
If they would wise up and put the CRD into the unlimited I would go buy one tomorrow.

that was the pisser! the 2.8CRD will be available in the 07 models ... when they RUIN the wrangler. when the 3yr warranty runs out, i bet a fella could get one of those crd's out of a trashed liberty and bolt it right up. maybe i'll have more time to do such things when that day rolls around.

[QUOTE=aloharover]Cool. I sometimes regret selling off my Wrangler.

/QUOTE]

a quote we have all made after selling off a rig...

for me it was The African! but at least Stirling has enjoyed it...hopefully still is??
...and my dormobile with carawagon roof...owned it for what six months?(ron?) before having to sell due to loss of employment...that's one i will have a hard time replacing...

Isaaic, keep one rover and swap the other to Paul in exchange for labor on the one you keep! seriously! Shopboy can do teh work, and you will all be happy! Paul?

or just be a quitter and buy the parts later to build the 100wb...
