: Suffix B series transfer case identification: any help?

Ok. A suffix B transfer case has the lower low range gears. I will be foraging for this T-case.

Is there any way to identify the t-case externally? Or does the cover need to be pulled and need to count gears? Any suggestions/help on that?

Thank you.

If you are looking for a case with the 3.27 gears or the 2.92 gears youd be wise to check the high range ratios as well.

I've been foraging for the 2.92 low range gearset. Apparently, the high range remains the same (or close enough).

I do believe swapping over to the 3.27 will also mess with my high range. Not to mention that particular case is probably harder to find.

B suffix t-box's are identifiable by the fact that their serial number ends in "B", oddly enough. Otherwise there is no external way to tell them apart from the later boxes. They are 2.89:1 in low range and have the same high range as the later C suffix cases.

You cannot fit a 1 ton t-box (indeed rather rare) to a Series IIA/III regular gearbox without major mods. The high range in the 1 ton box is also lower.

The tooth count for suffix b is 22 teeth on the straight cut intermediate gear and 39 teeth on the sliding output gear.
