: Solid Motor Mounts???

My Brother-in-law is putting a 350 in a lenghtened CJ-5. The local race engine builder sold him some motor mounts that mount the motor rigid to the frame. Is this a good idea in a rig with 38's? Probably not bad if your driving in circles with slick tires but with the transfer case mounted on stock rubber mounts and the motor solid, wouldn't there be some undue stress put on the tranny and bellhousing?

thanks
I wouldn't recomend it unless you like tons of vibrations
but it could be worse
you could solid mount a 4bt diesel
you should be able to get some rubber mounts for putting a chevy in a cj-5 at nearly any 4x4 shop

I checked out M.O.R.E.'s website and NONE of them are solid mounted. I was more concerned with stress though. I think it was High5 that posted a pic of his tranny cracked in half a couple days ago!

When I bought my truck it had solid motor mounts on the 4.3. The motor, tranny and T-case was all solid mounted. Even at idle it would rattle your teeth out!!! It was VERY annoying.

Solid motor mounts are for drag cars that have to much HP for normal mounts. This would be the only reason I would ever use them. Even then I would use rubber mounts and a torque limit strap instead.

my buddies cruiser runs a 400 horse tune port injected 383... and runs 42" swampers without a problem. but if you solid mount the engine you better solid mount the tranny because with a rubber mount on the tranny the motor will wanna move

I know a guy who monted a 4.3 chevy solid.
It resulted in a huge hole in the side of the block within a week!
Bad idea!!!

If you solid mount the motor you need to solid mount the whole drivetrain.

If you plan on solid mounts for the motor and tranny, you better NOT have any frame flex. I don't think it would hold up very well.
Besides, I dont see any advantage to being solid, unless you wife
or girl freind likes it:smokin:

My 4.3 is and there is no vibrations from the motor just the boggers. The trans is solid to and i have had no problems. If frame is weak (rusty) it will flex more then it is ment to sometimes that is good.
