so im origianly a jeep guy whos now drives a zuk and now im thinkin of buying another xj and had a quick question. would it be worth putting a set of long arms on an xj wiht 3" of lift? i am think 3" lift with 31x12.5's maybe 33x13.5's. i know the long arms made a huge differance on my original jeep, but that was with 36's and 6" of lift. so would it be a waste of money to throw long arms on with a 3" lift?

From what i've seen and have been told, you won't benefit from a longarm system until 5" or so.

Not true.
You will benefit from long arms with any size lift (Over 2") better arm geometry, AS, etc. If you have the $ go for it.
Also, easier to do it now than later... Build it right the first time so you don't have to retrace your steps later.

X2 on that. For an example, watch what happens under severe droop on a short arm system. The axle moves forward a LOT. This is dramatically reduced with a long arm suspension.

Thats what im thinkin, i would like a setup that allows for alot of travel, with a low center of gravity.

I hear that. I am at 5.5" of suspension (no body lift) with 37" tires and think it's too much. I want to be on 40-42" eventually when I get decent axles but the goal was always to keep lift to minimum. Belly clearance is already right around 24" which seems to be decent. Most flex in my setup is in droop and low CoG is a goal.

Exaclty what im looking for. what springs are you running? im thinkin RE, but cant decided if i wanna go 3" or 4.5" springs. also, how do zj coils differ form xj coils, i remeber reading something, but cant recall exaclty.

I can't help you with XJ/ZJ stuff. I have a 1998 TJ. I know that on some years of XJ the front is pretty much the same as some TJs, but that's about it. Probably not very useful for you.
I am running Rock Krawler 5.5" springs. They seem to be working well.
