: High pinion Question

I have a 4.11 ratio high pinion centre(not yet fitted) and have purchased 4.88 precision gears but i have just spoken to a diff builder here in Aus and he thinks that the 4.11 housing will not take the 4.88 gears but he is only guessing. He thinks the offset is different.

I know a lot of you guys have fitted them and thought you may know more.

Ps;I am also wanting to use the ARB that is fitted to my current low pinion centre if this will fit (i belive it will)

Any help would be great.

The ring gear is thicker for lack of a better word. Toys don't use off set carriers:smokin:

Dirt bag this is what i thought but he thought that there were 2 different carriers. One for 4.1/4.3 and one for 4.88 and 5.2.This is not such a common swap here so i thought someone here might know.

Thanks

The ARB will work if its for a V6 diff.

I just cheked the ARB catalouge and it says that they all run the same locker (RD23).

RD23 is a V6 locker i believe ,and yes a 4 Cyl. locker will not work with the high pinion just like you'll need reverse rotation gears, you can get 4:88's from the dealer and I think Yukon makes 5:29's

You mean reverse-cut gears. Reverse cut gears don't exist. You will need to make sure it's a V6 locker, and not a 4-cylinder locker.

Are you sure about that.

Yes they are reverse cut gears and they are new from precision gears 4.88-1.And the locker is an RD23.

It may be different over there but here in aus the RD23 is fitted to both 4cyl diffs and V6 diffs. They list the same centre in the ARB parts book for both.

i think evil typoed.. reverse cut gears are what exists.. reverse rotation?? well there's no such thing.. everything rotates the same way.. the gears are just cut different so that the pinion can contact the ring gear higher from the ground.. reverse rotation is a misnomer.. all gears whether reverse cut or standard rotate the same way.. only difference is where the pinion is.. standard cut gears in a front axle spin on the coast side when going forward and this is what a high pinion diff eleviates.. (sp?) is that even remotely clear??
