: Just once I'd like to be able to replace exhaust manifold gaskets without...
PTSchram 03-20-2006, 07:40 AM Finding the threads in the heads are non-existent. Worse yet, there is far less room to heli-coil in a Disco than a Defender. Adding insult to injury, the damned electricity kept going out in the midst of the job. Made running a drill very challenging.
Now I get to disassemble further to gain access to the bolt holes, if I can find a stubby little 25/64" drill bit, or have the one I have cut down for access.
Lastly, I'm gonna send one nasty letter to Emhart/Black & Decker about those worthless heli-coil insertion tools they include with the kit. If I could have found a better solution on Sunday afternoon, I would have bought it:flipoff2:
Pray for me fellas, I don't wanna be pulling the heads off just to repair the damned manifold bolt holes.
Peace,
PT
wilsby 03-20-2006, 07:49 AM PT, repeat ten times:
"Sir, in order to retain the resale value and renowned reliability of your superior British vehicle, it is adviceable to replace the faulty heads with new OEM parts. Attempting to repair the threads, apparently damaged by a by a non-Land Rover shop not familiar with proper repair procedures, would be risky and non-professional." :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
Sorry, couldn't resist. Good luck with the job at hand!
PTSchram 03-20-2006, 07:53 AM I'll go back to that mode in about an hour! This was my truck!!!! I do still get to be a CB on the weekends, don't I?
To be painfully honest, it is so much easier to work on my turck when I don't have to wrench all week long as well and then worry about not having the paying work done so I can work on my own. The only time BTl was a "Job" was when I wanted to work on my own truck.

FiveO Disco 03-20-2006, 09:18 AM PT sounds like you are an Oregonian now. I'll be in the Republic of Texas for a couple of weeks. when I get back my thirds will be done and I'll need to test the gears and lockers, so give me and Ro some dates you can wheel.:smokin:

I checked in nearly half a mill worth of trucks today. Just what I need is a $90K trail rig...
The employee discount isn't nearly what you'd expect, about the same as what I got parts for when I had the shop, now I have to pay for them, can't hide them with accounting reindeer games:D .
Might get a chance to drill and insert some more holes this evening. The sad thing, a client called me Sunday and asked me to go along on a trail ride.
Again, they're working me to death, at least my daytime company car is a cool 110:grinpimp:
Peace,

Nah, the virgin oil will piss off the hippies even more as it has to come from Iraq, don't ya know!
War protest? My only protest is that the cost of oil hasn't gone down enough-time to invade both Syria and Iran:flipoff2:
(Off to buy more Haliburton stock)

I feel that pain brother. Just had a seal on the steering box blow out as I was backing out of the shop with my wheeling rig....which I was going to drive 'cause a brake line in the DD heap Rangie let go on the way to work.
Time to get a fridge and a couch in the shop.
Glad you're enjoying the benefits of representin' the green oval.!!
Tip; when dumping oil in the river, set it on fire so all that hard work gets noticed.
