The pavillion will be done.
The shower house will not be done by the first comp.

We're going to get at least 20 loads of these size rocks today.

Tom saw the 2005 Litfuse RROCK DVD and shook his head as he saw Team RenRag come out of the top of Uncle John making the statement "I still have time for a snack"
(Better make that snack a bowl of Wheaties mikE!)
Well, Uncle John will see the biggest rock of the day. The over 30,000lb
boulder will become an added obstacle to the course:

big rocks are cool but fill in between them with more decent sized rocks so there is actually traction to get up them. Digging holes sucks and once the first person stackes up a hole it stayed stacked, so just stack em for us

Travis, would you like some concrete and yellow stripes with that?

91blaze
03-20-2006, 06:34 PM
Yes please

I'm just used to traction I guess. Not asking for it to be paved just build everything up so there are rocks for traction instead of loose dirt on a incline with a huge boulder to get up.

The rocks are just being unloaded near the areas that we will be putting
them. I'll be bringing the trackhoe home to put them on the courses later in the week.

For those that know Tom, he's the "instinct at the moment" type of
person.
We talked back and forth about the courses today.
But when it comes down to it...he'll throw the boulders where
he wants them at the last minute.
Tom was like a kid in a candy store today. He got word of the blast
at the quarry at the perfect time.
Oh, and Sweet Pea, over and over again he kept looking at rocks saying
"This one's for Sweet Pea. I want a picture of his purse on that one!"

...you all just keep adding fuel to the fire.

throw some on the trails!

ALL of these rocks are going to end up on the courses
somewhere.
We're averaging 3 rocks per haul and we will have 20 hauls
done before the next comp. Talks with the quarry leaser
has us good for many more loads throughout the summer.
(The owner of the quarry was actually the best man in our wedding : )
and the story of us being locked in the quarry is a whole
other story"

Thanks Mike! Hope to see you sometime soon.

It rained this morning...which was good. It actually cleaned a lot
of stuff up. Regardless, Tom hauled more loads of boulders in to the comp
area today.
He's also going to haul in a lot of gravel to freshen up the vendor area,
spectator areas and the road that leads into the comp area.
The tin for the roof of the pavillion comes tomorrow...just in time
http://pic12.picturetrail.com/VOL419/1417243/7188688/135345570.jpg

Several of the competitors that have never been to the park are trying to
understand how everything is set-up as far as the parking lot, camping area,
check-in building etc...in relationship to the comp area itself.
In the pic above of the pavillion; if you stood on the side without the posts
or the walls and looked out...you would be looking at the comp area. You can actually see most of the courses from standing in this spot.
The woods that you can see in the background of the picture is the camping
area. In between the pavillion and the woods is the parking lot.
As you are looking at the picture, the check-in building is just out of the picture to the left. This building has indoor restrooms, concessions etc...So everything is close together and nobody has to walk
any distance that amounts to much to get to everything.
Just to give folks a little bit of a perspective on how everything sits.

Like Debbie said everything is very close and there are some very nice shade trees around the competition areas for those hot summer days.

Hey Kevin, you know Tom is going to say it, so I'll be nicer
about it and get it out of the way...Just make sure you've
got some spare drive shafts!

Tom has been hauling rock all day again today.
I guess there's not going to be anybody that will have
the "home field advantage" :D

It's been great getting the calls and emails from the competitors.
Teams that said that there is no way that they could get their
rigs ready in time are working non-stop both at their "real jobs"
to pay for their rigs and also in the shop till the weeeee hours of
the night. Ask Team Twisted Toys, Bevill Repair, Off-Limits 4WD
about it just to name a few off the top of my head!
The look at the new courses has them pumped!
Good luck!

OK Annie, I'm taking a break at my "real" job right
now in the xray department, I'll get some up real fast.

We're up to over 500 ton of new rock.

These "birds eye" view pics kind of show the areas, but
the trees hide a lot.

Here's the Mod Stock course "Clyde"
http://pic12.picturetrail.com/VOL419/1417243/7188688/136279167.jpg

In the back end of this pic you can see the vendor area.
Tom's hauled in a lot of dirt to level it off to allow more
room and larger vehicles. You can also see one end of the
Mod stock courses "Easy"(Hope we don't have to change the name :) and "Deception"in the forefront of the pic
http://pic12.picturetrail.com/VOL419/1417243/7188688/136279170.jpg

When taking these pics, I'm about 80 ft up in the air.
Here's Uncle John. Several 20,000 plus lb boulders have been added to the top end. An over 30,000 lb boulder now serves as a 4ft ledge climb. There are at least 10 times as many rockd in this course as there was before.
This is the trail that Dustin Webster called a "World Class Course" when he was at the park July 05...well I'm not sure what that makes it now
http://pic12.picturetrail.com/VOL419/1417243/7188688/136279174.jpg

Back left of this pic is the well-loved tire stage "The Playground. Close by that are "Carnage", "The Slab" and "Bizzare"...all very different now. And very back right you can see some of the concrete poured climbs "Bottoms Up" and "Franks Hill" behind them not seen are the steep loose climbs where"Full Toumbs" became an understatement. These climbs are "Marbles" and "Balls". Balls is going to have a surprise in store for the Super Mods. The 8ft diameter tire stage "Trojan Alley" lies between the concrete climbs and "Uncle John" in the pic.

Tim,chance of rain on Sunday, But this forecast has changed so much this week. Earlier it said 60% chance
all weekend. It is getting better :)

I'm sure he'll still be at it a few hours after that.

Debbie, I'm not afraid of the rain, actually I kinda welcome it. It would make the comp a little more interesting. I just worry that Mr. Head Marshall's hair doo will get messed up by the rain!!

Ken, from what I hear, it would be worth getting there in time for the grilling. I personally have never had the chance to get there early enough to experience it, but rumor has it that Tommy Boy can actually cook!!

Well, all of the construction that we could fit in up to this point
is done, all rocks/gates are set for tomorrow's comps.
A lot of the competitors have pre-teched, ate great grilled
food thanks to my husband Tom, compared notes and experiences
and when I left for some peace and quiet, were still BSing around
the campfires.
I had a router hooked up to our wireless at the park.
Since we haven't reached the level of getting Live Coverage
from Lance, I'm going to try to do a little live updating of my own!:D
Check-in tomorrow for all of the scores and highlights.
"And now, it's time for the show!"
