I need to replace my stock alt - it finally has crapped out on me.
I know most people upgrade to a GM alt., due to availabilty and
cost, what are some of the other alt that people might have used.
I know someone on one the other Suzuki boards mentioned using a mitsubishi alt off of a Chrylser. Fabbing a bracket is not a problem so most any alt will work within reason.
I would want to run at least double the amp size since I have a winch and a few lights.

Thanks,
Wayne

why get complicated ,just use the gm conversion and if you ever need an alternator just go to any part house and get one.as a former mitsu owner parts can get really expensive with mitsubishi stuff, just keep it simpleand relaiable.Think if you have to replace the mitsubishi alt out in the middle of no where.a gm part will be a whole lot easier to locate....just trying to help

What part # is that GM alt??
or better yet, what vehical is it usually found in??

Is there a belt or bracket change as well?

OR...is it just a bolt on simple task?!

Thanks

if you have a boneyard round those parts, you should just pull a trackick altornator, its a bolt in and good for an xtree 20 amps over the stocker.. just my .02

i have the roadless bracket, worked great. go with the gm, i got a 105 amp for less then 100 bucks brand new, and its chrome -bling bling-

hook up was extremely simple, just run a wire from the bolt on teh back of the alt to the positive terminal. i used 4 gauge cause its big and i had a bunch of it laying around

go into any parts store and ask for a gm one wire, they will know what your talking about, they used them on damn near every gm car/truck for over a decade :D

We wanted to put a Gm alternator in super sami, right off the bat. A local sami guy told usthat the amperage would be too high for the stock dash wiring. Is this true? or was he mistaken?

its bullshit. i'm running one, works great. what i'm planning on doing is removing the fusable link and replacing it with a actual fuse. then off the positive terminal run an extra fuse box -just got it at kragien, 12 bucks and has 6 fuses- for all my extra goodies -stereo, cb, rocklights, etc-. that way the stock electrical will be untouched. also a thing to remember, the factory fusable link is 30 amps.

I've had absolutely no problems running the GM CS130 alternator on my zuk. I've done about 5 of these conversions for myself and others. I got mine off an 85 Buick.
