i was thinking that since i was going to upgrade to a auto trans i would go ahead and do an eng swap at the same time.im thinking im going to use a gm 700r4 trans, and thougt id go 4.3 v6. but that is kinda wide and heavy, and gets away from the benifits of a sami being light, my next tought was to use a 3.4 v6 they are ligter and more compact, but they have durability problems. so now im thinking that a 2.3l quad 4 eng might be the ticket. they are compact, realy light, and make good power. adapting the injection etc wont be a problem.
i guess the question is: does any one know of some one trying this swap? are they happy with it? does any one foresee any problems? oh, and yes i know ill have to swap oil pans etc since this would have originaly been a fwd aplication.

Isn't the Quad four a BOP pattern? Make sure you get the right narrow pan 700R4 or maybe try a 200R4 into a normal Sam t-case...
You are out on the bleeding edge I think. I heard a rumour that Kim Ley did this swap and never got it sorted out.

yha, bop pattern, but thats not a problem, i can use a early monty trans or an adapter. i think the fact no one else is doing it will be more incentive for me to go ahed and do it. i dont foresee any problems other than i wont have as much low end torque as id like, but then again i think i'll have enough reduction that it wont be an issue.

I say go for it. Any engine can be installed anywhere, whether it works well or not is usually a function of attention to detail.
I'd like to see a Q4 installed in a Sam, it's a swap I've thought about on and off for the Sidekick (instead of going GM4.3).

i saw an article in street rodder years ago about a bellhousing being made to mount a g.m. manual trans so you could go rear wheel drive with it. do it.:bounce2:
