Ok so I am not just a back yard mechanic I have been working on SUV's for a few years and have done a number of things sure not all custom and cool, but still things a lot of people can't do easily. I have removed my ax15 from my 95 YJ and I have not been able to locate or any thing that resembles an ax15 manual. I need to replace the synchronizer rings mine are well they are no longer synchronizing. I don't know how to remove the bearings well really I don't know how hard I can work the parts. I am cheep and have little money I can't afford a rebuilt trans or some one to do it for me and I will not give up my Jeep. Please any help will be more then appreciated thank you.:( :emb2:

check bill vista info on the homepage. I think he has an ax15 manual there for download.

Anything specific, I've got a '89 fsm manual just for an AX-15.

I was having some truble with the direction in which some of the gears come off. I just got it back in my jeep yeseterday and went to start it and it did not start well to make a long story short i had to buy a new battery. I bought one at lunch today and can't wait to get home and take her for a test spin. Again thank you

Where did you find the fsm for the AX-15?

I have just finished rebuilding mine and sfter a day of driving it is stuck in fifth gear. I was able to use diagrams pulled off of different sites to stack the gears but they did not give enough detail on the shift rails and shift balls.

I received three of them when I bought my jeep - full, electrical, and AX-15. PO was a good guy.

I have rebuilt one and they are actually a pretty easy manual tranny to do. Taking it apart you have 3 sections and the main shafts stay in the center plate as well as shift forks and the front and rear housing just slige off. I am extreemly lucky that knew someone that worked at a jeep dealer and borrowed a dealer YJ 1990 book that goes over everything in detail. With that book i had no problems. You need a press to get the bearings and gears apart. There is stull you cannot mix up direction because some pictures and wording is unclear. It you keep track of your parts and take digital pictures as you go its easy. The c-clips are what spaces the gears and bearings properly so you need to get a kit wiht a variety of sizes so you can re shim it correctly wiht thicker or thinner clips.

I used the pitures in the Hynes manual and the part from bill vistas home page. Neather said any thing about the shift rails. but there are marks that help to set them up.
