Recently lifted my 60 with a 3" Pinnacle spring lift. It started to vibrate between 30 and 40 mph. I installed shims and that made the situation worse, new U-joints didn't help either. The wierd thing is when I took the shims back out the vibration didn't go back to the way it was before I put them in.
I have no idea what to do next, didn't think a 3" lift would cause so much trouble.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I feel your pain! I have similar problems. Sorry that I have no real suggestions.

It could be a number of things. Here are the top 3:
1. Driveshaft phase. Did you separate the drive shaft in two pieces? If so, you have to get the splines back so that the arms of the U-joints are in exact line at each end of the shaft and not rotated.
2. Flange angles not parallel. Check the angles on the output flange and on the 3rd member pinion flange. They should be the same within 1 degree and opposite sign. If they are not parallel, shim the rear axle to make them parallel.
3. The angle that the drive shaft is operating at is too steep. this doesn't seem likely with a fj60 and a 3 inch lift.
There are a bunch of other minor possibilities, but they would have been causing problems before the lift.

I've had the same problem on my FJ62 for well over a year now and it pisses me off. I know the vibration is coming from where the d-shaft meets the t case. This is b/c i jacked up the rear end and put it in drive. I also think that some of the vibrations may come from the slip joint of the driveshaft. I might just end up getting a new CV joint saft, but I would definitely reccommend getting it fixed as soon as possible b/c it only gets worse. I also have vibrations when i slow to a stop. Good luck.

check your flange on the drive shaft . I did the same lift on my 62 and could not drive it due to vibration. The flanges were spread enough that the u-joints could move on the clips also slip yoke was slightly worn. Had a new shaft built and cruises awesome at all speeds.

More than likely its your rear driveshaft causing the vibration. How far did the slip joint on your shaft move when you lifted it? Might need to get a longer driveshaft.... I have had this happen on all of the trucks that I lifted over 3"- 4", and it was always the shaft that caused the vibration at speeds from 30-50 mph..:skull:

I once had a problem with vibration coming from the rear driveshaft and it turned out that the driveshaft, which I'd cannibalized from a high-mileage FJ60, had worn splines. New driveshaft, no vibration.
If the vibration is severe, you must address the problem ASAP, or it's going to take out another component of the drivetrain (t-case or third member).

This is one of those cases that if you know a good shop it's worth the money IMO. Take it in to a driveline shop (see if anyone in your area can recommend a good one). These guys can evaluate your u-joints, splines, proper angle, etc in a matter of minutes.
