: Formula chassis ?
Ramrock 03-22-2006, 03:53 PM Well was looking into one. For my rig. To drop some weight and make some room for 2 more seat and motor swop and keep the toy theme going. Well mike e-mailed me back on the f-chassis. Well problem is chassis price is cool but shipped killed the hole idea. Allmost the same price as chassis. I like the look and idea. So have any of you built your own f-chassis.
dam if you had just posted this last week. i just drove from freakin LA to austin sunday. i could of brought a chassis with me:shaking:
1100 for shipping? i had heard it was 500 or something like that.

Mine was 615 from his shop to Columbus Ohio..
Check your own quote with ABF.. Where your getting killed is the 2 hour drive from Mikes shop to LA for a depot..
Ramrock 03-22-2006, 04:25 PM Mike said a ball park of $500 to $700. To ship.
I know a top fuel chassis shop down in houston tx that a family freind owns. I mite give him a call and see what he can built it for. I just know right off hand hes high on prices. But he builds nhra cages and chassis so it well be up to snuff. Im not down'n hedrix work. Thing that sucks wife looked at some pics i had saved seen them and said whats the cost on one of them i told her she said not bad. And i want have to much down time. Why dont you look into one. I was lost for a couple mins. Thought she was joking around.:D
Ramrock 03-22-2006, 04:32 PM Was talking to my boss about shiping cost. I guess the weight isnt what jacks up the price its the size. Allmost 12.5 foot long. Wish my brother still did hotshots.
As for Round Rock i just moved up here 4 months ago. Different from what im use to. East texas rednecks. But the pay is good and my work is a hour and a half to katemcy or k-rock. So i got one of the best parks around right down the road.
hell ya, i am an east texas redneck:D
Tim Florian 03-22-2006, 11:27 PM hell ya, i am an east texas redneck:D

Ramrock 03-23-2006, 03:47 PM LoL!!! Dont forget stuffed dove
JeepRecoveryTeam 03-23-2006, 07:40 PM If you can wait till the end of the summer, I'm sure we can arrange for MUCH cheaper transportation. There is a whole bunch of competitors, including myself, coming to Dallas for the We-Rock National Championships in September.

Ramrock 03-23-2006, 08:15 PM Didnt know they have that good of a place to wheel in dallas. Yall have any comp in katemcy or k-rock this year. Mite have to wait. Plus mike doesnt hve any of the hrew chassis built right now.
I guess i just dont understand why whaleys can receive chassis and weld them together but a customer cant do the same. The cages will be the same i guess i just dont understand.

Basically they became an approved vendor, why is it so hard to understand that you can do it to but you have to be an approved vendor?

JFC
hrew chassis built right now.
dude, serously. you spend 10k putting one of these together only to have it dinged all up because of a couple hundred bucks not to get DOM. my DOM is really banged up and i cant imagine what HREW would be like. oh wait, yes i can, look at todd's, lol
Roxywheels 03-24-2006, 02:25 PM If we're able to make it to the Jambo we might be able to bring it back for you? We're in Copperas Cove. :roxy:
Ramrock 03-24-2006, 03:58 PM Hell i run a pipe exo right now. And i bang on it all the time. I have only one good flat spot on it. The rest is just grind down. And im look looking at $1500 to built my rig. I have a running chassis right now. So just swop cab for chassis cage and add odds and ends. Back on trail.

Pipe and HREW are totally differant when it comes to the abuse they will take agaist the rocks. You WILL regret not getting the D.O.M.

thats what I though  I'm probably another $5,000 into it so far.

Not to talk you out of it, because FToys are the best thing going IMHO... but it's not that simple. You've got lots of time and money ahead of you to do it right.

Ramrock 03-25-2006, 04:50 PM All im doing is swoping out a exo and cab for a tub chassis cage. Make some floors, mount pedels and brake booster, steering colum some wireing. Ready to hit the trail again. Im going to use all the factory stuff off the truck that i can that way i can run stock parts. My rig works very well right now. Im just ready to lose the cab and have a tub look with less weight. Ya look at my sig. I have a 85 trail rig allready this what it going on.

Dude, it's NOT that simple and fast. I was around for a lot of RE:Todd's build-up
of his F Toy and it takes MORE time and MORE money than you think.
I'm not saying it's as expensive as a full tube chassis build, but IMO you're
drastically underestimating what you're getting into.
Ramrock 03-25-2006, 06:30 PM Im not trying to ague with yall but this well be my 8 buggy build or this one a rebuilt. Im not changing none of my suspension setup. Just drop in new motor, tranny, raditor and staying with same toy t-case set up i running. Little things arent that hard for me to do. Plus i got a 12,000sq ft. Machine shop at my useage. Plus all i need is some peices of tubing to do the floor and some alum for some skins. I have the rest sitting on the rig right now.
Heywood 03-25-2006, 09:36 PM It can be done quick and cheap using your existing parts. Most people cant or dont want to do it like that.
One difference is most people move their motor back 2-8" so that will change some things. None of its rocket science, just alot of little stuff that adds up.
Things like fabbing floor, fire wall, seat mounts, elecs, belly plan, etc.... all take time. Once your into it your gonna want it nice, cause we are all gonna be looking at it to
see if ours is better:flipoff2:
Ramrock 03-25-2006, 09:39 PM I like simple and strong. No bling for me. Just build it to hold up to alot of skinny pedel.

So you decided on D.O.M. then????
I wish I went DOM... but I'm just going to double up the thickness on the rockers and hope for the best.
Ramrock 03-26-2006, 09:20 AM Im now looking at a couple shops around here to built the chassis for me. After shipping its out of my price range. If i have it done here ill proble go with dom. My boss gets a good price on dom or highend metals. We do alot of highend machine work on the cnc side of the shop i work at.

in that case buy a bender and just build yourself a buggy. you'll find lots of help in the toyota and general sections.
Ramrock 03-26-2006, 01:06 PM I work in a machine shop all day. So comeing home and building thing Sucks. It gets old and i dont take my time. I like to have the time to finish things when i start them. This is why im having some one build the main chassis and i finish it off. They well put more detail into it.
Kerry- going to a formula toy huh? I'm thinking of heading that way myself. But I have an open ended budget, sold all of my other toys to build this one. It should be fun. Holler at me when you get a minute.
Ramrock 03-30-2006, 04:07 PM Is this Hank Shank. If it is whuz up bitch.
