It's a 90's model tracker with fuel injection, I will be using this since the Zuk is motorless, but what about the tranny? Will I have to use it also?? Anything else worth putting on the Sammie??
Thanks

I think (Don't hold me to it) that some people are swapping the rear ends into the Little ZUK.... I also know lots of people are using the 1.6 engine and maybe the transfer case... Some clarification would help me as well, as I am looking at getting a Sidekick to build up....

you'll have to buy an adapter to hook the engine to the zuk tranny. You can get those from calmini or any other place.

You might want to use the power steering also.

Well I am getting Toy axles so I won't use the trackers. Should I just use the Tracker tranny, or is the Zukies tranny better??? same with the T-case which is geared lower or are they the same?? Anything else swapping? Any advice is helping, thanks guys, this board is really helpful, even to this NEWBIE!!!!

seeems liek they must be geard higher. The ring and pinions in the axles are way lower than samis. Noone ive ever heard has used them. Alos, there are probably almost no kits for gears in a tracker t-case . You would defiantley have to screw around moving crap becuase the tracker has a center diff not offset. Plus sami parts and rebuilds are mega cheap ect ect.. my advei, keep the stock tranny-t-case.. trail tough makes a great 1.6 adapter

lemme reprhase... noone i know has used the tranny and t-case. the rear axles is a common swap then use the ring and pinion in the front for 5.12 gearing

[i]i dont know if you can get gears/ no one make em[/B]

:rainbow: calmini:rainbow: make um... but then you have to deal with :rainbow: calmini:rainbow: Tcase gears for kicktracks that is
7 bills i think though...

Rockhopper makes 'em too.. but..

I dream of doing the tracker tranny/T-case/OTT Kicker II/Toy case thing in my sammy.. with toyota axles of course.. Could be another very sweet option.

On a side note I fially mounted up my 31's and the Sammy looks way sweet!

I snagged the steering wheel off of my 2wd '94 Tracker parts car it's a straight swap. I'm also putting in the Tracker seats, though it does take a little creativity with the cut off wheel and some angle stock. I plan on using the sammie transmission per Brent's recommendation.

Not higher geared, no reduction in the T-case. Sami T-case has a 1.409 reduction (stock) in high range, Trackers/Sidekick is 1:1 in high (like most every other vehicle). Therefore, 1.409*3.727 = 5.25 for an equilivent R&P. The 5 speed Sami (w/ late model 5th) and Tracker transmissions have the same gear ratios.

The 2wd Tracker transmission is popular to use with the divorced Sami T-case (with all it's gear set options).

I still am confused on what I want to do?? If it were you guys what combination setup would you use??? I'm leaning to the tracker tranny since it will bolt up with the 1.6. but unless it is weaker or something? then I think I will stick with the sammies T-case. Then of course the Yoda axles. How does this combination sound to all you wheelers out there???
Thanks,

the t-case in the sidekick is married to the tranny and it uses slipyokes instead of flanges~~that's why I went with the OTT kicker2, it's a modified sidekick t-case that mounts to a toyota t-case. dual t-cases:D and slipyoke problem solved:D You WILL have to modify your tunnel though~~mine is in a solid axle (toyota) Sidekick

So I'm going to go with the 1.6, then the Zuks transmission and T-case. That's that unless anyone has any better options. Thanks for all the great info.

I use the Sammy tranny in my 1.6 swap, got Brent's adapter kit, bolted right in.. are you going efi too?

You should definayly use the steering wheel. I took mine off of my 95 parts Tracker last night and put it on my Zuk, WOW what a difference :D .

if your parts track/kick has a auto trans, it has 462s in the axles. if its manual, it has 512s. you can make a hybrid outa the rear axle and weld some perches on it. you'll have a stronger rear axle with 512s. the front just swap the carriers, they bolt right in. Ive built a couple like that and building another right now for my wife. just picked up a parts tracker last night.
33s, 512s, welded diffs, 4.16.= cheap little capable rig.

Ya I'm going efi, and I will definatley swap out the steering wheel, :flipoff2: , as for the axles I'm getting some toy's for $150 and swaping them in. hey about that will the leafs go right onto the perches or will I have to reweld them closer in???
thanks

why not built the kick/tracker? i just wonder why (if it isn't wrecked) you would pull everything out of a tracker and put it in a sami. i think it would be sweet to put a set of toys or d44's under a tracker. it would be less work and there are alot fewer trackers out there that are built than samis. if you found a 16valve 4x4 tracker, put a stock sami t-case behind the tracker case for a dual setup, waggy d44's, slide the rear back (cutting out the rear fenders of coarse) to achieve a 98-102" wheelbase, run wrangler leaf springs and then cage it and slap a set of 38x12.50 sx's on it. i think it would be sweet and pretty easy to do. the motor, tranny, power steering, etc. would already be there and mounted. anyway just another option. :D

amen high 5! that would be pretty easy.. ive seen a couple trackers setup nice and they go anywhere when setup properly.

How hard is it to run dual t-cases, don't know anything about them? And is there a YJ conversion for the tracker or do I just use the Sammies YJ lift??

High5
04-10-2002, 01:37 AM
heck i don't know. couldn't be too hard. build a mount for the sami divorce mounted t-case and put it behind the stock tracker/kick case. as for the yj's you will need to do an axle swap if you want to run them. if so upi don't need a kit. buy or build some hangers and slap them on. there is nothing to it. i have never done a tracker but it can't be anyharder than anything else.

the stock coiled rear would be a good place to start. lengthen the lower control arms, make some drop away buckets, and the back should flex up nice. rear axles are pretty stout if ya wanna keep it fairly simple, or sell it off to buy your yotas. the coils in rear would prolly be easier than YJs, flex more, and give ya a better departure angle after you chopped the back of the framerails off.

I don't know anything about the trackers, so is it coils all the way around or what? There arent' to many lifts out there for trackers. It would be easier to build the tracker but I want it to be Zukie capable, if you know what I mean. I am going to swap out axles for yoda's so should I just go YJ leafs all the way around? Still confused about a dual t-case..... want to know how to do it though, that way don't have to spend 1k on some crawler gears for the tracker. Thanks

Here is a recent pic of bb88's rig in Moab.....
Does this help? It's got Wrangler springs on all 4 corners with the Toy main leaf added up front, OTT kicker 2 t-case and Toy axles. Locked in the rear and RS 9000's. It performs VERY well.

Be sure to keep the gas filler door!!!! you can use it to patch holes in a sammy (according to zukstur anyway):p :p

I used the lighter from the Tracker too. It has a light around it.:rasta:

I also used one of the motor mounts. It seems tougher than the Sammie one.
