I am looking to build up a dana 70 out of an E350 chassis cab DRW.

I can get one complete with drums or I can get it without the hubs, brakes, and inner axles (obviously less money).

What I would like to accomplish:

1. Convert to discs
2. Leave the housing/tubes alone (ie no cut shorten whatever)
3. It is full float now which I would like to keep but whatever works
4. 8 lug is fine
5. Keep it somewhat in budget (I am a cheap bastard :))

can I basically leave it the way it is but put SRWs on it and 3/4 ton calipers like you can to a DRW 14 bolt?

or am I better just buying the housing and putting some other type of hubs and axles in it.

Also would any other 35 spline hubs work (ie D61)?

I did exactly what you are planning with my D70. When I got it, it had the big dually drums on it, I tossed those along with the backing plates. I put on a set of D60 front rotors that I had laying around, went to the pick-n-pull and got a set of calipers, whipped up some brackets and, presto, disc brakes. I did the whole brake swap for about $75.

So you just left the big hubs on it and all?

Do you have any pics of the set up so I can see the brackets? Any place (or POR member) that can make me a set cheap.

Thanks!

I did leave the stock hubs on it. As for the brackets, I don't have any pictures, but probably the best place to get them is http://www.aa.mfg.com. They have several weld on caliper brackets, and they sell for like $7.
