bluesman2a 04-06-2002, 11:19 PM That's some pretty bending there Scout. I gotta dumb question though: why toss out the stock roll-bar? Was there a design consideration or did you just make something just flat-out better?
Any other details on what's coming up/been used?
jdjanda 04-06-2002, 11:51 PM Glad you have the camera working?
Looks sweet
Are you ever going to work on that Scout
BillaVista 04-07-2002, 05:48 AM Sweet lord, Scout Dude,
It's Sunday morning here, and that's the prettiest thing I ever did see.
That is exactly what I want to do - I wish to copy, hope that's OK. So clean and simple and elegant.
So - which tubing is it?
Which die - 5.5 or 6.5 radius?
Do I see you using a JD2 manual style there?
What is the attachment method to the frame?
Any chance you could post some basic dimensions?
This will be my first time bending.
The Rockslut 04-07-2002, 09:10 AM Well, the reasoning for dumping the original cage was mostly that the tube size was different. We used 1.75". Then we could made the rear bars drop sooner than the factory bar for a more flowing look. Still some more tube to go in like Scout Dude said. We will post more pics after it is powder coated and installed.

As RS mentioned 1.75" .120 HREW...I have a 6.5 Radius die..It is a JD2 but it's set up for Hydro...except that it has a hand pump. It's not attached the the frame yet...hell, it's not even attached to the floor yet. I don't which frame method he wants to go with (Bushing on frame or the sandwiched rubber sheet) so we'll have to wait and see.
As for dimensions...I don't really remember. I do all my jobs on site so I just build as I go. First thing you need to do when starting out is bend a 90º section that you will use for the rest of your life. This will tell you where to start at. See the bending 101 post..I think that TB uses the same method. The only measurement that I remember off-had is that the rear bars are bent at 120º and If I remember correctly, the bends start at 18" from the hoop.

H8monday 04-07-2002, 10:17 AM Everyone must be getting spring fever, we were all hard at work doing modifications.
I took the grinder to mine yesterday, and started raising my rocker panels and building an inner cage for the tub.
By the way thanks for the stick of schedule 40. I owe you
The cage looks good.
Ill bring the Plasma cutter by sometime this morning. Hopefull the bottom of the tub wont drop out of the Jeep while Im driving it, (it isnt quite finished yet).
H8monday 04-07-2002, 10:19 AM A couple more pics of my hack job,
H8monday 04-07-2002, 10:25 AM I got it almost halfway complete yesterday. It looks a little funny, but its easy to do before and after pics right now.
I was able to do everything with straight lengths, for the 1 st stage,.. But, Im gonna need you to do some of that bending magic, when you have the time to fit me in for some shop time.
Scout Dude 04-07-2002, 10:38 AM Jeff. that's a brand new $60 paint job and you just cut right through it:eek: :flipoff2:
I've got about 10 more minutes of surfing and then I'll be out welding...Call me when you are heading over ok?
For everyone else, here is what it will look like when we are finished (sorry for the crude paint skillz...I obviously don't make my money through my art talent)

The paint looks good in those pics, you should see it now that I have tack welded the skin to the rocker tube, and center pillar. When the welding heat got to that fresh NAPA Tractor Paint, it torched it right up, for a really nice "smoke over IH Yellow" zebra stripe affect.
I gotta get to work now too.
I just called to pick up the Plaz, and he said he wont be home untill about 1:00. Ill head over and grab it for ya when he calls me.
Goose 04-08-2002, 12:00 PM Thanks Scout dude!
Those pic's look sweet. :D

Scout Dude 05-07-2002, 10:08 AM 80 ft IIRC
I bent it up but Rockslut and Josh (Owner of the Jeep) put it together...I wasn't even present when they finished the spreaders and rear bars...
