If you can give insight on any, please let me know

First of all, I have a 96 Chevy 4.3 Vortec CPI, it is on an engine stand here in my room, i have it down to the block, (crank, rods and pistions are still in) although i have taken the four main caps of the crank( which I assume hold the bearings) what would cause this to still not turn over? the pistons and rods look fine...

Next does anyone know if I can use my existing starter and flywheel on this motor?, I will be keeping my SM465

Will the existing motor mounts accept this v6? I assume so becasue the mounts are on the same part of the block as a v8.

And lastly, I dint get a fuse box with this motor, but have the wiring harness and ECU, will this present a problem?

As soon as these are answered and my motor is spinnin' ill be able to swap her in! Thanks guys

The flywheel and starter should bolt up. I think that the motor mounts will be different, becuase the 4.3 is shorter than a v-8. I am wondering why you are doing this swap?

ya but the 4.3 motor mounts aren't in the middle of the block, they are 2/3rds of the way up towards the front, which makes me think that they are in the same place as the V8 ( example there is only one cylinder in front of the motor mount and TWO behind, where the v8 has two infront and two behind, i think it will just sit a little farther back in the frame.

As far as my reasoning behind the 4.3 ...

My truck has to be a DD for the next 2 or 3 years and has to make the haul from college here in CO back to So-cal atleast twice a year. Not only does this particular 4.3 make 4 more HP and 40 more ft lbs of torque than my current carbed 305, but should, with the right gearing, get better mileage:D

I owned a 2000 Astro w/ this same motor and it had a ton of power, and my truck only weighs about 400 more pounds , even on 36's! :flipoff2:

How long was that motor sitting before you tore it down. Sometimes the rings will just slightly rust to the piston chambers if the engine has been sitting for a while. I would bolt your bearing caps back on, spray some penetrating lube into the piston chambers and let it sit for a while, maybe a day or so. Then when you are ready to do it, spary just a bit more on the pistions and crank the hell out of it, if they are rusted on then that should be enough to break em loose. If that cures your problem, you will at best have to replace the pistion rings and have the chambers honned out and at worst you will need the pistion chambers bored out.

If that dosent work, I would pull all the rods off the crank and pull the crank out, it might be warped or in a bind some how??

I found that one of the bearings stuck on the crank...:mad3:
