: No birfield circlip idea?

Just had a thought about the 'Marlin Tac'. If I intalled the axle spacer block from a semi floating rear in the front diff, would it be possible to avoid using the outer Birfield circlip and the 'Marlin Tac'? My guess is that the spacer would not be wide enough. Has anyone tried this?

its worth a try--although i think its much easer just to place a couple spots of weld.....

Yes, it will probably work. Just slide the axle in and make sure it doesn't slip past where it seals the tube.

I agree it outta work.....the idea behind the marlin tack is to maintain surface to seal contact at the outer housing seal, to ensure correct spline contact with the birf and make sure the axle doesn't slide inwards.

Question tho, since the center block is not square, is there a chance it could "rotate" and push the axle too far out?? No idea how much movement is available in there....

Hmmm Good point, I didn't think of that. I have a center block that is pretty square. I imagine they could rotate, but I don't think it would be enough to push the axle too far out. I guess you could put a small tack on it to keep it from rotating. When you need to remove it you would just have to grind for a second or two.

Front and rear is interchangable correct? Are the spider gears the same or different? I know that on my 69 rear end, there is no way that little block is going to rotate, it's quite "ob-long" and just to get it in there the right way (Between the spider gears) it takes some light tapping with the rubber mallet. I don't think it could rotate.

But, I have a third on the workbench, I will "test" that theory and take some pics, and let you know. :D:D:D

should work I know on a ARB you dont need the
martac so I am curious to here the results.
