: Link Suspension Set-ups

I tried posting this up at ck5 but haven't had a reply yet so I figured I would try over here. As far as I know this site seems to be a little more "hard core" in terms of build ups so I'll see if you guys could give me a hand.

Ok so I am figuring out my set-up now and have been talking to a few companies about what set-up to run. The work is being done by Evolution Machine & Fabrication, the same company that helped build the White Knight.

They recommended using a radius arm design. They are currently doing this set-up on a k5 in their shop right now. I was told this set-up would be ideal for removing almost all the bumpsteer from the system.

Now I also spoke with ORD and NWF who both recommended using a three link system due to the binding that would be created using the radius system.

The rear all companies said four link but I honestly can't remember which type of four link each recommended.

What I was hoping for was a basic explanation of each system with pictures. Links to pics of stuff in action, where the binding occurs etc. I have a very difficult time visualizing these things without something to look at. Also any input from members as to what they have used with success or without would be great.

I plan on using this truck for everything. I guess the best way to describe it's use would be for tough truck challenges. Mud, rocks, trails, high speed. I realize that there is certain types that work better for each type but I want the one with the least compromises. I will also be using 14" coilovers front and 16" rear.

And one last thing is I would appreciate it if we could keep this thread not overly technical. I find a lot of this info can go right over my head without an engineering degree. Just laymen terms lol. I won't be the one actually building it, I just need to be the one to decide what is being built.

Thanks alot for the help guys
~Max

As a side thought what type of steering would you choose to use with whichever set-up you recommend?

Thnx again

I am going to run a 4 link rear suspension with triangulated uppers and lowers. For the front I'm going to go with a Wristed radius arm setup. Depending on how much flex you get and the size of the tires I would say that a hydraulic or atleast hydraulic assist steering is in order. Post up the specs on your rig and what kind of tires you are going to run aswell.

Yeah sorry I forgot no one here has my specs.

I have a 78 k5 its stats are 355/465/205/d60/14bff
I have a newly rebuilt hydro 465, 32 spline 205/203's, nwf doubler, 4.56's, 14bff is already equipped with a detroit and I have a new one for the 60 as well as 35 spline flanges and stub shafts. I have a set of 42" Iroks on their way as well as a set of H2 wheels. I will be using either king or saw's in a 14" front and 16" rear and hyrdro bumps. I had already planned on hydro assist but I want to move the front axle forward at least 2" if not more depending on steering restrictions. My goal is to keep the ride height as low as possible while still getting the best travel possible out of the wheels. I am also going to be lowering the engine tranny and t-cases as low as possible without interfering with link mounts etc.

This is still a full bodied street legal truck as well. For the record it will be getting a BBC or the 500 caddy I have laying around.

Thx

I'm from the Okanagan, Penticton to be precise. Currently I'm out in Calgary working on the rigs but I'll be back home by June. Hopefully with phase 2 finished on my k5 :smokin:
