Or at least I found an axle with 1.5 35 spline axles. I have a 1983 f-350 box truck (been sitting for a while), so today I checked one of the shafts, and the spider from the HP60 fit right on!!!! I don't know what the axle is, but it appears to be around 64 inches wms to wms. I'll yank it out next weekend and start building the axle.

It was a good day.

I guess I should also build the frame, sandblast the body, design the suspension and whatever else it takes to build a jeep from a torched shell

I think in 83 it would be a Sterling 10.25. Would still have 1.5" 35 spline axles. Does it have a LOT of webbing around the case??? If it does then it is a sterling.

PICS???

It doesn't look like the other sterling axles I have. Did they change them? There is a lot of webbing going towards the pinion. The axle shafts from my newer sterling (1.5 35 spline) wouldn't mesh with the 35spline dana carrier (wrong spline angle, but this one does. The wheel studs are right and left handed, just like the big trucks. According to the dana site ford did put a 70 in the 83 Cab and Chassis. I'll try to get some pics and find the BOM number, Where is that number on the rear axles?? Is it the same as the front??

That sounds much more like a 70 then. The LH and RH lug studs give it away.

Can I just press the LH studs out and use RH on both sides???

Thanks
Craig

It looks like the week-end can end on a happy note (I got a 70):D

The Sterlings didnt' come about until '85/6, and they've all been the same housing TTBOMK. '83's gonna be something else.
