How's this for a tow rig? Yes, it is hooked up. The worst part is that this was over on Highway One, must be a real thrill to drive.

Reminds me of the dude that wrote the Toyota Bible....he towed a camper with his '40 too!

i stopped towing with my 40, too light and too short....and too high

and get steered by the trailer......LOTS

but he is game

but since i stopped towing with my 40 and thought about it......contributed to destroying the car...so id recommend against doing it

The 40 is probably not the best tow rig for that size trailer. However, I've been using mine for towing for years and think it is the best tow rig for my use that I could have. I use a small 4x8 trailer with anyhwere from 1k to 5k pounds on it. Properly loaded you don't get trailer stear. The staight 6 and the low gearing are great for pulling the load. I also tend to tow on small roads and off-road trails (I'm far to cheap to pay for rock and flagstone when I can collect it myself) thus the size of the 40 is not an issue as with a full size truck. Used sensibly the 40 is a fine tow rig.

Sure that isn't Moses Ludel's tow rig? :rasta:

When I moved from Portland, Oregon to Austin, Texas in '93, I used a '71 Datsun 510 to tow a '67 Datsun 2000 convertable. Yes, a 2100# vehicle towing a 2200# vehicle. It was NOT fun... but I kept the speed down to 40-45mph for that 2200 mile road trip!!! Took five days, solo trip as I didn't want any more weight in the vehicle!

I still remember the truckers on the CB... they appreciated I would drive on the side to let them pass me on the DOWN HILL sections, but it was funny to hear "Oh my he is at it again!" on the radio. Started at 3 a.m. and would call it a day by 4 p.m.

Would I ever do that again? No way!!!! Had thought about putting a V8 in the FJ60 to use as a tow vehicle for the Fj40... but decided the 3/4ton crew cab was much safer for the kids with me. :D
