Ok, getting my t-case problems worked out (have 3 cases on the garage floor). Using 69 gears, a 73 case and a 76 output shaft and nose cone.
My SM420 came with the adaptor linkage/levers for a 3-speed t-case. With the aforementioned setup, can I keep the 3-speed shift assemblies with the 4-speed nose cone. Everything seems to fit ok???
It'd save me a little time from having to fab a bracket for the 4-speed shift linkage.

The '76 front front output shaft won't work with the 73 rear ouptut shaft as the shift splines are different. The nose cones are the same. You will probably need the short 3sp 2w/4w shift fork housing as the 4 speed one is about an inch longer.

Bill-
there was a lever system on ebay by Jackalope I think for $1 open bid. Those 3 speed dog clutch assemblies sell for $80. You have the shaft length on the 4 speed one, so if you need to a second slot can be milled very easily (I have seen a few of those with a double slot from the factory).
sorry about your old case...

Charlie,
No problem - I'm using both of the 76 output shafts. The SM420 is already set up for the 3-speed 2x/4x shift mechanicals, so I just want to use the shorter 73 shifting mechanism... Sounds like you say both nose cones are the same and interchangable.
Rick,
Yeah - ain't that a biatch on the case. :mad3: That's life.
That's a great idea on milling the shift shaft. Now that you mention it, I recollect seeing one that had both slots. Hmmm, where was that...
