Has anybody here had any experance using an NPR as a tow rig? I recently picked one up for next to nothing and am planning on using it to haul my jeep. Right know it is just a cab and chasse so i have alot of options. Right now i plan on building a flat bed for it with a dovetail and just put the jeep on the back of it. it has a 13250# GVW so i should be good. I know the little diesels in them are know to be preatty gutless, so im swaping that out for a sbc/auto setup.

my dad uses two for his company trucks. with the isuzu diesals in them they pull ok but are limited at 60mph? also kinda slow going uphill.. if your swapping in a sbc then that should take care of that... what are you doing with the deisal and tranny?

Id keep the diesel in it for a while.

All of them I see zip around pretty good.

be a great engine to put in the trail rig.

Ya thats what i was thinking about the swap, the only thing is i am having troubl finding factory mounts. Any one have pics by chance? plus since all of the gas versions were sold under the GM name i might loose the Isuzu badges and find some GM one's for it.

I had one for 2 years... Correction, I towed with one for 2 years. I still have it. Its dead. I am not a beliver in using one for longer hauls. It was good for the first 20K Then the problems came. Everything cost a fortune. The aly went out and spiked the voltage on the way home from a wheeling event. It smoked every bulb, relay, and the trans computer. $400 for a used trans computer, $700 or $800 for an alternator. The clutch fan was another $380. I needed new tires and the lug nuts and studs cost another pile of money. After dumping $2k into it it blew up driving down the freeway. Also the milage was crap. I got 11mpg loaded or empty. Also, loaded it was quite enemic. Not accepable for the milage I was getting. I get better milage with my CTD with 15k behind it...more power too. BTW the heater suck, rides like crap, and only fits 2 people.

Ya thats what i seemed to rember from a while back, Manualy searched back over 20 pages and did not see any thing ono them. Seems to be most of the complantes are from the lack of power, but seeing that im not using the little diesel i think it will be alot better.

what year is it and do you have acess to a fax machine? I work in gm parts and can probably pull up the pics of the mounts/ get a decent price on the mounts if we can still get them.
