: Russian SIII - maddd video skillz

...alright, admittedly lifted this from dweeb, but it's still a very gnarly video.

There's a wide selection of exotic eastern-euro 4xtrash in this, but the wheeling is sick...the trucks are sick...and the video? Well, if you like hard wheelin', some hard rock background music and no dumb-arse comments from people that are actually IN the video, you'll like THIS ONE. (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3997304738377042391&q=land+r)

This ought to be in chit-chat probably, but there's a SIII on tractor tires with what may just be Volvo portals??? I couldn't tell...there was too much mud. :D

Had a friend show me this a while back and he said it was footage from some challenge that goes through Alaska onto a boat to Russia and there is a section of film out there that has footage of a hundred mile run they have to do across a frozen lake. I wanna go! He also said it cost like 40K to do the whole trip.

Wow that is still circulating?

The video is shot at an event in Russia called Lagoda. None of that took place in Alaska although the terrain is similar. I'll see if I can find the thread on our local board by the guy who did the editing.

There is a fellow on here that goes by "Dollythelw" that has competed in the event in a very nice yellow Rangie that he named "The Pig". Maybe he will see this and provide some more information.

Here is the link to all of the videos including the Lagoda ones.

That's definitely the Lagoda:flipoff2:

Where's that Oklahoma Rovers chap with his :rainbow: videos. This is the standard against which he should be measuring.

Mike - that was excellent spotting - there may well be an SIII in that monstrosity somewhere. I don't think Volvo's would stand up to those tyres/that abuse. They must either be mogs or more likely, given provenance, portals off some Russian tractor that I have read about but do not know the name of (although I may recall their being of somewhat suspect strength...).

Anyway - that was almost as good video as those madmen from Oz who were flexing their stuff in the mall-crawl parking lot madness:jester:

Emo??? I think the reason this movie did so well is because of the music. Next time I'm putting in some pop rock.

The video quality on this google thing is horrible.

Its interesting how this internet telephone game works. Alaska? Boat? Ice crossing? :)

Now I'll have to give him hell, he painted the most beautiful picture of a 3 month hard core cross continental event, complete with broken bones and carnage so long we'd call it the trail of tears.:mad3:

I'll still pretend it exists. Sweet, sweet utopia.

Jack Straw - the vid is Lagoda, but you are talking about the Murmansk to Vladivostok (check out the route on a map - no, wait - ATLAS! ) :D

It is (I believe) teams of three which MUST include 1 female, in two vehicles. They do all kinds of challenges like one vehicle dragging the other across the frozen lake and stuff (yes - it's HUGE, some teams made ski's instead of their tyres apparently). Teams are gradually knocked out over (I think) 7 stages along the route, and the final winner is given 10 kgs of gold (though if you manage to get it out of Russia you're smarter than I am... ;)

To be honest the Murm to Vlad looks more like a road/track based long distance rally - the killer is the temperatures WAY below freezing (and the distance). I don't think it's as hardcore off-roading as the Lagoda (couldn't be over that distance I guess, no-one would survive.

Cheers, Al.

 I was thinking the same thing. That and I loved the real quick shot of the dash mounted laptop PC post recovery.
I am not even sure if one of the DoD toughbooks would have survived that.

I did make a few movies of the polar ring trips on the 6x6 buggies but they are completely different than this.

SIII - Series Three, the third and last generation of the leafspung classic look Landrovers, preceding the coil sprung Ninety/OneTen/Defenders.

He is referring to the big black truck on what I belive are Mogs. It looks like a Series III with moved rad and extended hood.

Larry, come on you know you want to:D

I've been eyeing the mods on that truck for some time. Not ready to bob yet, but his complete reconstruction of the front body really intrigues me...

Way did you check this RRC out? I know your up to something down there in "the 'springs".

PM me his address and I will get out the telephoto and go get some "spy" shots.

I wish someone local would dump a RRC for a grand (versus 5x that) I would love to do a bobbed trail rig.

Every now and then I hear of one for about that. If your serious I will keep a look out for you. If it doesn't run we can go get it with my trailer and get it down there.

I would be wary of calling Russian rigs trash, rough round the edges maybe but those are tough guys driving very tough trucks - pound for pound some of the nicest people I have ever met.

The car with the Red cage is owned by a guy called Arnis Najmuns from Latvia, its a toyota bodied unimog 404 with a ford V6, he went in, realised he was in trouble reached for the kill switch and knocked the wipers, it sank 12 feet, the reason the wheels were up was due to Brent the German (guy with the check shirt and the ponytail) was hauling it out with Zil recovery truck, within 27 minutes Arnis was back in the competition, albeit minus a laptop :D

The Series III is on 404 mog axles, every rig in Tr3 and Tr4 (the nutcase classes) runs portals, mostly C303s as weight is a serious enemy in the swamp

Big thanks have to go to Grant aka Logjam-Grant for hosting the original video  cheers fella!

Jack - just drive the trans siberian highway, its not known as the road of bones for nothing :D

Al - the Murm to Vlad raid is sponsored, if you buy a tryout ($900) and pass then all your expenses are taken care of, added fun in the shape of avoiding the DPC :ghost: who will be out to skin you if they catch you !

mind blowing experience - cant wait for June 3rd when it starts all over again :smokin:

Thanks for the feedback on pig, shes off in new hands now and still going strong, new toys in build

Dollythelw
04-05-2006, 05:40 PM
yep, Jerzy and Nick and if I remember correctly they were 11th in class - it ran in the Tr3 group, Jerzy's back this year with his new toy but he's not sure if Romcat will run Tr3 or 4

Nick impressed the Russians so much that he won the top sturman (navigator) prize, it should be interesting this year as theres rumours of Australians turning up but I dont know what class they're in

clocks ticking theres plenty of work left to do
