I'm going to start in on my flat bed and want to get something that is heavy enough to have enough weight to flex the rear springs properly (56" Fords) so I want it approximately the same weight as stock when I'm done.

I'll have no problems needing the half ton springs then. The main frame of my bed (Part that actually bolts to the frame of the truck) is going to be 2x2" .250 wall, the rest .120. Plus the 5x2" 250 wall rear bumper

I took the bed off my old 1st gen awile back, Kinda fawked my self in the ass when i did it because i went to the rubicon for the weekend like that. Long story short. i didnt get 20 mins past loon lake.

I eventualy added a spare and toolbox and stuff and that helped but you should be fine.
