Eldorado Forest Lawsuit Intervention Status

On April, 9, 2002, the Honorable Lawrence K. Karlton granted our Motion to Intervene in the lawsuit which the California Wilderness Coalition, Center for Biological Diversity, and the Center for Sierra Nevada Conservation had filed against Eldorado National Forest. That lawsuit has the potential to close Eldorado National Forest to OHV use. Among other things, this order grants our broad based multiple use coalition the right to participate in any settlement negotiations between the Plaintiffs and the Defendants.

from what I gather, intervenor status, just allows us (CA4WDC in this case) in on the hearings and stuff. They get very limited say in anything, if any at all, but it allows us to know everything that happens first hand.

now my personal feelings:
I think intervenor status is overrated. Last time it got us to have to sign stuff we didn't want to sign. I personally think our money might be better spent on a counter suit or something along those lines - but on the other hand, we need to have a first hand account of whats going on, as to not be "left in the dark" and cornholed from closed door deals....so I guess intervenor status is kind of like a necessary waste of resources in a way....
