: What type of locker?
85toyboy 04-07-2002, 10:35 PM Ok, I bought an axle from a guy in Oregon with a locker in it. I'm putting it in my third and can't identify what brand of locker it is. I can see no stock center pin in it, which both the ez locker and lock right have. It seems to be in a stock carrier so not a detroit. What else is there?
SeaBass44 04-07-2002, 10:42 PM got pics? describe it, if u see 4 small gears, spider gears then it's an open diff and u were ripped off...Doh! I'll put up some pics.
SeaBass44 04-07-2002, 10:48 PM lockright
SeaBass44 04-07-2002, 10:49 PM softlocker[ie: full detroit]
Lowtorious 04-08-2002, 02:04 AM if it's wooden, it might just be a lincoln locker...
sorry, I know that was bad...........:D

85toyboy 04-08-2002, 10:03 AM the more I look at it the more it lookes like a full carrier locker. There are no spider gears, and not center shaft. Actually there seems to be no way to take the carrier apart. I guess it is possibly a full detroit?? Can someone post a few pics of the detroit?

TNToy 04-08-2002, 10:08 AM Installed (In a Dana, but it looks about like this in a Toy, too):
85toyboy 04-08-2002, 10:12 AM Hmm, it doesn't quite look like that.
Toybeast 04-08-2002, 10:42 AM It could be a limited slip, since some people still think that they are a locker of some sort. If there is nothing in there meaning no spider gears it has to be a spool. But you said that it looks like it is a carrier and looks like it can not be taken apart, so LS would be it, more likely a gear type. If that is so, You got RAPED!!!
85toyboy 04-08-2002, 10:51 AM Nope, not a limited slip- I had a true trac and this is not it. not an Auburn either.
85toyboy 04-08-2002, 10:53 AM On the lock rite and ez locker- is the cross shaft visible from the outside of the carrier??
Wilson 04-08-2002, 11:25 AM email me a pic of the damn thing, if I don't know what it is, I'll post it. Then seabass or someone else will know for sure.

DavidT. 04-08-2002, 11:50 AM Hmm...could it be a spool? Here's what a spooled third looks like:

I borrowed this picture from RokToy, hope he doesn't mind ;)
4x4Search 04-08-2002, 11:53 AM Sounds like you need to get some pics of this thing online. I'm sure someone can figure it out if you get pictures. Cheers.
85toyboy 04-08-2002, 12:00 PM I fired a few pics over to wilson, he'll be able to post them.
Wilson 04-08-2002, 12:26 PM looks like it might be one of the older, original detroits. If so hold on!!!!!!! They really pop and clang like a mutha!! The soft locker is, I beleive, a 2nd gen detroit. It was designed to dampen some of the operational sounds of the detroit locker. Anyone else have a guess???? Have any pics of the other side of it?
rocktoy4me 04-08-2002, 12:31 PM Do you know if it is a 4cyl or a V6 diff. The full detroits for these two look different. On the 4cly model, there are not those bolts that stick out like the one shown above. It just looks like one big hunk of metal.
the 4cyl detroit looks like this...
85toyboy 04-08-2002, 01:08 PM It's a 4 cyl. but it doesn't have all the exta holes on the ring gear mounting flange.
projectcrawler 04-08-2002, 02:37 PM I have that exact same locker. The guy I bought it from (goes by brocbronc on the board) said it was a 4cyl full detroit.

85toyboy 04-08-2002, 02:46 PM That's it!!! Is it a detroit soft or full locker????
Wilson 04-08-2002, 03:29 PM No need to post teh other pics tehn, I guess. That's a full deroit, which like I said beofre is the original detroit before the "soft locker" which is what you get now if you buy one. They are both full detroits in operation.
85toyboy 04-08-2002, 03:41 PM I guess I got a decent deal then: 1 complete '85 axle with warn hubs, all-pro hysteer, and detroit locker for $300!!!
Wilson 04-08-2002, 04:01 PM Sounds like a screamer of a deal to me. USed Detroits go for that alone, front ends go for $200-$250. Hysteer??? Mine was $$$, not all pro though, mine's stronger
projectcrawler 04-08-2002, 04:20 PM I guess I got a decent deal then: 1 complete '85 axle with warn hubs, all-pro hysteer, and detroit locker for $300!!!
Damn! What a deal. I paid that much plus half again for this one with 5.29's installed.
Although I was scared to setup diffs back then.
Killer steal.
