Ok so I know that this isnt really related to rock crawling but (fine its not related at all) as I mentioned in my check in, it seems to me that you guys actually know your stuff so ere it goes.

Im going to built a pretty hard core gokart. Its being designed for one person with a 600 ish atv engine (might change). From the side it actually looks like a pick up but what ever thats not the point. My question is about tubing. Firtsly what exactly is SCHEDULE 40 tubing? I cant seem to find this anywhere on the net. And also what would the difference be between say 1.5 x 0.125 tubing and 1.5 x 0.125 pipe?

I think thats it fow now

Thanks

Andrea

Tube is measured by the outside diameter, and is generally a more consistant material. Pipe is measured by the nominal inside diameter, and depending on the grade of pipe, be made with a lower quality of steel. Both can be used equally well, but require different dies for tube bending machines. Do a little looking into the tube vs pipe debate as it has been had a whole bunch on this forum.

You can't find schedule 40 tubing, because there is no such thing. Schedule is the way that pipe is measuered.

Schedual refered to the pressure a pipe could with stand. Schedual 40 is common, it far exceeds house hold water pressure, I want to say 300psi or there abouts look it up to be sure, schedual 80 is for much more pressure. PVC pipe is rated the same way too, know what your buying.
And no, tubing is not rated to handle internal pressure, it is designed to carry a mechanical load.
