Having just (well, in the last couple of months) fitted my double CV drive shafts front and back, i've now got 2 knackered pinion output shaft bearings on my transfer box.
the front one has a <little> play in the bearing, but the rear one now makes the vehicle vibrate badly above 50mph, if you grab the handbrake drum you can wiggle it a few millimeters (as if the rear nut was loose that holds the drive flange on.... but it ain't loose!) :(

what i'm wondering.... is this just an 'unfortunate coincidence' that my bearings were a little on the tired side anyway, and the extra weight of the double cardon unit (and rear shaft adaptor) just tipped them over the edge (and hopefully 2 new bearings will sort the problem period) or do i have to put up with the bearings not lasting more than 6000 miles between changing:question: :question:

anyway, thanks rockrover, i think it's just a 'coincindence' that the bearings have gone. thinking about it... the disco S2 has the double Cv shaft up front (admitidly not has heavy as my one) and that just has the same output bearing as mine.

Yea, I hope your right...Make sure you mic the housing were the race sit's too. I'd be afraid of the casing becoming deformed at the same time.

I thought the double CV driveshaft is for a compound angle situation; like angle whacked out on X AND Y axis. Or did you go with this due to the extra lift and a single Double Cardon CV wasn't cutting it? I assume you still had UJ vibes too with teh single unit?

well, they're just 'single double CV shafts'... just a stock UJ at the axle end, and the cardon joint at the gearbox end.

although i feel i need to get the shaft properly balanced with the flange adaptor, also i'm fabbing up an 'A' frame unit to tip the axle back slightly to make the differential flange point at the transfer box a bit more, i think this will cure the last remains of vibration (which was brought on, like you said, due to extra lift)

the single uj side needs to have a angle under load of less then 2 degrees to live a happy life

mine is 'sort of' pointing in the general direction of the t/box, but not enough.

a mate of mine who has exactly the same springs and propshaft suffered from a bit of vibration still, so he made a unit up to tip the axle back slightly (like the RoverTym thing) and it cured all of his vib's, so i figured i'd try it.
