I have a 2 pod on top of the coloum thingy for my 05 dodge.
One gauge will be tranny temp, the other.........?
EGT?
boost?
Pic of myself?
I plan on getting an Edge Attuide, but not for a while.
What would be the best for the 2nd gauge?
Truck is stock.
The pryo, I don't make enough power to get hot I think, but having baseline numbers would be nice.
Boost, just cool I guess.
Pic of myself, in case I forget what I look like.

Boost and EGT if it's a manual, EGT and trans temp if it's an auto.

its slow. get the egt gauge and mount it pre turbo.... You should buy that xmonitor in the forsale section..

thinking of Post Turbo, just because if you buy a exhaust brake from dodge, they out the EGT in that elbow.
If dodge puts it there, so can i :)
besides, its easier.

It doesn't give an accurate temp reading of the exhaust gases coming out
of the cylinders if it's "post turbo". Mount it "pre turbo".

To further amplify Gary's thought....
You stand a pretty good chance of a roasted turbo if you rely on post-turbo EGTs. By the time it creeps over the line, your upstream temps will probably have been over the line for some time.
Having said that, I don't think I can get my stock 99 24v too hot. I've hit maybe 1150 under severe uphill towing.

Given you only have a 2 guage pod then pyro, stock you aren't going to make enough boost to hurt anything. You'll eventually want a boost guage though.
Put the pyro pre turbo, you're judging cylinder temps to ensure that you dont' overheat the pistons & valves as well as the turbo. This is why you will see variations in temps and variations in how long @ that temp. you can get the gasses hot for a few seconds but the mass of the head, pistons etc aren't that hot yet so you don't have a problem, but if you hold that temp for long you begin to see problems.
Having seen guys running pre & post pyro at the same time they have reported temp variances of as high as 500°.

I think a pic of me would be a better idea :flipoff2:
trans/egt and pre-turbo (i'm expert now cause i've been reading my ass off) :flipoff2:

HA!
So when going pre turbo, is anyone droping the mainfold, or just drilling/tapping with lots of greese so nothing falls in.

Just read somewhere else, They said to just drill it with the motor running.
Makes sense to me, all the crap will just blow out as I drill.

blow out and roast teh turbo.
here is what papa smurff did.
motor off
we drilled a bit re greased bit and drilled more. etc... broke through and used a magnet with greases on it and cleaned up anything that may have drifted in. put teh probe in and called it good.
my 99 is mounted post turbo and its so gay there.. its mounted in that elbo you know of so when i get my exhaust brake ill mount in the manifold just like my 92 for acurate readings.

Definatly go Pre-Turbo, havent hear of the "while running" technique but sounds like it would work I just greased mine up real good.
As far as stock temps go, I can hit 1100 unloaded when I really put my foot in it. I can easily hit 1300 towing 10-16K and have to back out of it to keep from holding 1300+ too long. Towing 6K to cali last week It never went over 1200 with cuise set on 75mph. I have heard reports the cummins did a test of 1400 degrees for an hour and tore the engine down, no damage but I don't really want to take to that exteme.

that one i linked on tdo said to do it dry and vacuum the shavings out... don't know if I trust the sucking power of kara's vacuum that much though :flipoff2:

Yeah, another forum told me to drop the turbo.
Why? so I can have an exhaust leak when I put it back together:barf:
Drill and blow, I think I will wear about 4 pair's of safty glasses.
