I finally have the blasted shop finished and can get in and start putting the Zuk back together. Its been sitting in parts for almost a year now.
I have a toy IFS steering box to mount with a stock piman arm.
I was wondering if anybody has 'rocked forward' the steering box like it sits on a Toyota pickup frame using the Allpro IFS steering box kit or similar on a Suzuki frame.
The steering box has 3 holes, 1 at the front, 2 at the rear.
I was going to make a wedge out a piece of the 2x4 3/16" box tube I have on hand that was used to lenghten the frame. The top rear hole will go into this wedge and the 2 bottom holes inside the Zuk frame. This is similar to how the IFS box mounts in a Toyota frame. This will allow the pitman arm to sit higher and not contact the springs. The angles will make the steering shaft and connection to the steering box almost evenly aligned.
I'll still use the IFS Steering knuckle, but will allow for much greater clearance between the pitman arm and YJ leaf spring contact.
OK,
What am I missing in trying to do it this way?
I know I'll have to gusset things heavily and use bushings between the frame but I would have to do that anyway. It should work fine and should save me having to purchase a flat pitman arm and FJ80 rod end. I already have the Sky mfg rod end for the Toy IFS box and the bushings and steel.
