View Full Version : Ok so do I add a larger tranny cooler?
I went from 4.10's and 225's to 3.54's and 265's to make 75mph in our tourbus. It has a 7.3ltr diesel and a C6. Question is....Do I really need a larger tranny cooler on this sucker? I am not quite sure.

Putting a temp gauge on it will tell everything... cooler needed or not.
Its got a great temp gauge in it now but its cold here in MN yet. I am thinking the tranny can take it but I will be at 2900rpm for hours and hours which I dont really care for :(

On a tour bus, I woulda kept the 4.10s and put in an overdrive. The 3.54s will of course put more of a load on the trans, but as previous stated you do need a guage more than anything.
Well we do plan on towing a trailer cross-country so it needed to go faster without the od

A large cooler that integrates a temperature bypass.
Tru-cool stacked plate coolers have a bypass integrated by design. Some of the very large coolers use external bypasses.
Here (http://www.bulkpart.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=2&Product_Code=4739&Category_Code=tru-cool-hd&Product_Count=3) is one with an external bypass which allows you to run a cooler that's honestly too big and still allow the transmission to get to a good operating temperature.
hmm I will check that out! Thanks for the link
