: rock90 almost done
rock90 03-31-2006, 09:03 AM I have wanted a D90 rockcrawler for a while and I think it easier to take a rockbuggy and put the 90 body parts on than it is to create a rock crawler out of a D90
tube chassis
100 inch wheel base
D90 bulk head with 6 inchs taken out of center
D90 wind shield frame chopped
D90 doors, hood and tail gate
IIa grill and headlight panel
4.3 vortec v6
NP208 soon to be atlas
Ford 9inch dana 60 hybrid with 35 spline axles and detroits
3 link air bag rear suspension
3 link coil over read suspension
Howe power steering
39.5 x 17 iroc
17x 8 Alum beed locks
rock away swaybar
disks all around
if some will post them I will send them pics
DiscoDino 03-31-2006, 09:31 AM If I were you and am not using ANY Rover drivetrain (although I am not, and my truggy is ALL Rover), I'd simply shape the bonnet and upper cage to match the NAS cage, no need to have the bulkhead, tailgate, etc...fab someting similar, and don't recycle the original parts...

When you say you are taking 6" out of the bulkhead do you mean narrowed? Or making the tranny tunnel wider?
IIa breakfast and grill, but pushed forward to the 90 position? Flush with the wing fronts?
Pete
rock90 03-31-2006, 09:50 AM Yes i narrowed the bulkhead and wind screen frame 6 inchs and pushed the IIa grill to the front.
I sent you the pics it will be clearer whne you see them.
As far as doing "I'd simply shape the bonnet and upper cage to match the NAS cage, no need to have the bulkhead, tailgate, etc...fab someting similar, and don't recycle the original parts"
I could not use the D90 frame and cage because it is too wide, tall and heavy for what I want. I love the Rovers but for hard core rock crawling it is painfully hard to convert.

It sorta looks like a rover. Still very sweet though!
Agrover 03-31-2006, 03:35 PM I like it, but don't you think the alloy panels are a bit tender to cope with the abrasion of rockcrawling ?
Bill.
Leafsprung 03-31-2006, 03:44 PM so did you buy a rockbuggy and put the d90 stuff on it or build the whole thing? kinda neat
rock90 03-31-2006, 03:47 PM The doors and the wind screen will unbolt with four bolts apiece. the only tender pieces will be the hood and bulk head the rest is tubes or quarter inch steel.
DiscoDino 03-31-2006, 03:56 PM sweet
rock90 03-31-2006, 04:04 PM yes I bought a rockbuggy and grafted the D90 body panels to the buggy. it is cheaper and easier than creating a rockbuggy out of a D90.
compared to a D90 it is shorter fits in a 7ft tall garage. it is thinner by 6 inchs. it is lighter also about 3600lbs.
I plan to enter some rock crawling comps to see how it does.
Bad ass. I am excited to go wheeling with the new rig.
ISUZUROVER 04-03-2006, 09:17 AM Looks great!!!
Needs a panel between the hood and fender tops though.
76ROVER 04-03-2006, 03:38 PM looks good, how about a pic from behind?

Sorry, it was the first thing to come to mind... :flipoff2:
So are you up for running Penrose, Billings, 21 Road etc this year? I need some folks to run these with. I think Way might be in?
Of course I am down. As long as we can plan it out a couple of weeks in advance I am down for anything you want to do. Maybe Avalanche Ranch. :)
rock90 04-04-2006, 10:12 AM I am in for running Penrose billings and 21 road. I also want to run avalanche ranch. it can be run as hard or easy as you choose.
What do you say to running penrose in the next couple weeks. sundays are good for me. I am thinking of running a Rock race so I want to see how fast I can run Penrose.
cheers
Ed

I think I'll have my truck up and running within a few weeks. Not sure how soon Ways truck will be ready.
Avalanche ranch would be cool too, I always forget about that.
For now assume by memorial day. As things continue to progress I will keep you guys posted. Right now I am simply gathering parts. Everything is pretty torn down, but nothing interesting to show yet.
