Look in the yellow pages for a place that does canvas work for boats.
Or better yet, Google

To post directly in the thread you need to join the website and pay the 20$ to get your red star.

Or put the photos on a web hosting service and post the links here.

If you click on the pic it will link to a bigger pic. And as for the cage I am still in the design process. Not exactly sure what I want/need.

Looks pretty cool.
Will you be running a rear seat?
I can picture a cage around the occupants that then slopes down to the rear, like a fastback.
I would then want a full softtop and just a bikini top.

I am using two 3-seater benches on either side of the back. So I can carry more people. So I was thinking maybe a full cage or just cage for the front and get some removable hoops for the rear. That way I can have full soft top or just bikini top.
I just got make sure no one is in the back if it rolls.;)
I will post up pics of the rear benches soon. Just bought them last weekend and need to make boxes to mount them.

Maybe something along the lines of this with the removable hoops for the back.

How many people are you wanting to carry and why? Also, what is your intended use of this truck? Definitely should put a cage in there before spending too much time behind the wheel.

And, Way: Post up pics of your project... I keep hearing things...

edit: McDonald your truck looks way better without the Border to Border decals.

LWG,

I will show my soft top rover buggy that is dove tailed when it is done. LOL. I love to see others going soft top as well. Much better for wheeling IMHO.

I want to carry more than 5 or 6 so I can drive around with my buddies.
I want to use it as a fun offroader nothing too extreme, but capable.

What are these things u are hearing?

-and also those decals were on there when I got the truck 5 years ago.-

You want somethin' like this.. zip out the sides if you still want the top to keep out the sun. You probably don't have much rain to worry about out there. Like Aloha said, check out a boat shop,, or price custom auto top stores in your area. They can make it. I tried the J**p bikini's but they were too narrow.

Have you got any more pics of that soft top Disco as I would be interested in doing something similar to my comp D1 for weekend trips.

If I thought I could get a good soft-top made for under $500 I would likely have the sawzall going in the garage right now. I built my cage so that if I ever wanted to remove the roof permanently I could do that. I would so love to remove everything from the rear doors back and have a top made.

I was actually referring to Adam Way's rig. He has a RRC and is rumored to be bobbing, chopping and all that other cool stuff.

Guy's here is my first post. Anytime you decide to make a custom cage you should check with the person who is making the canvas top. I know that there are some quality trimmers and poor quality trimmers. We refer to the bad ones as "Flying Monkey Upholstery". When people call me about such jobs, I tell them it is much easier to have the vehicle to design a top and give them ideas that will make the top look and work better.

I personally would expect to see some of their previous work. Here in Denver there are quite a few custom tops on Jeeps, Buggies and such. I don't think I would have a problem finding a quality one. But an affordable one is a different story.

After seeing a few of these, I've thought about it a bit, as I've contemplated doing similar.
Two variations that I thought about were:

retaining the pillars behind the front doors, and cutting the roof from pillar to pillar. Making a small hard top for the front seat, then dealing with a soft top for the rest. Reason being, I like the open air feeling of the scrambler, but never go without the bikini top, as the sun and I are not a great combination. Unless you get a soft bikini top tight, it will flap a bit in the wind. A hard top will not do that.
My other thought was to retain the entire roof, but cut most of it out, leaving maybe 4-6" in diameter around the entire roof. This would allow you to put a canvas top the full length of the roof for fairly cheap, and you could roll it forward to expose as much as you want to the open air. It would also allow you to retain a roof rack if you where so inclined. Think of it like a dormobile, but instead of a pop top tent, it would just be flat canvas. Those creative types could probably make a track on either side, and run cross pieces that could slide forward or rearward.

The very same.
Top was made out in VA.
Larry nailed it: the trick is finding one that's affordable. My first thought was a jeep bikini with the bolt-on windshield channel. Probably was it's too narrow for the Rover. Plus out here it rains so I needed the full top. A boat canvas shop could probably make a good custom bikini for those in a drier climate.
