The exo is getting reworked as is the running gear. I've removed the doors and have partially closed-in the door openings (boatsided bronc). It will get more tie-ins to the frame, seats, inverted "V" at the "A" pillar, and another hoop at the "B" pillar. Sold a D44 to install a 609 front, 9" rear, all 35 spline and True Hi9's. NP205 t-case with Klune V. It rocked with the D44 but was babied, when completed it will rock with more skinny pedal and not break.

It ain't not no bronco no more. Functional and Ugly = F'Ugly. Warning, I'll post-up more in a couple months when it's near completion.

That is an HP Dana 44 up front with 39.5's. I made two runs with it like that, an 8 and 9 rated, held-up, but the harder trails that require some skinny pedal and bashing over rock would probably make for breakage. (The 44 had Yukon chromos and Ox joints). I don't want to break out there. I have added a blower and could run 42's. Those are the reasons for the 35 spline 609 and upgrading the rear to 35 spline.

My rig before it got F'Ugly: http://www.supermotors.org/getfile/274211/fullsize/rampy.JPG

I have elected to go cheap and gusset/triagulate the crap out of the exo. I am using a Harbor freight pipe bender, 4.5" grinder and a couple of hole saws for notching. I think the PIPE is 1 3/4 ID.

I disagree with the above statement in that you can run a D44 but you have to baby it. I ran mine successfully for a couple of years with 37" MTR's as above.

Well that is all good but all the fullsize guys I have run with for years found out a D44 is not worth having with tires over 35" and why baby it on the trail you may as well stay in the mall parking lot

if you can't run over 35's why even bother putting in a D44. Just keep the ttb and save the cash for 60.

IMHO i don't se why people swap a solid 44 in. If you are hurting the ttb 4 that bad why not just get a damn 60

You can run 37's on a D4 with chromo's and upgraded joints! The D44 is lighter, offers better clearance, and is less expensive. I had about $1500 in my D44 and sold it for $1250

Fact is a D60 is not much stronger with 31 spline stock outers. Upgrade those outers to 35 spline and your well over the cost of a D44.

I would now say, "Why the hell put in a heavy Dana 60 when you can put in a lighter, stronger, weldable, 609 that has better clearance?" Cause the 609 is more expensive than the D60????????

Others do Rockwells.

It's all relative to what you have to work with, what you will do with your rig, and opinion.

I wheeled with finesse many difficults trails with a D44 set-up with ARB, chromo's, 5.38 gears and Ox's.

Well my Rockwells only cost $1050 for front and rear and once I shave them they will have 1" better clearance than a D44 IIRC and so it a bit of a pig unsprung whight is better than sprung whight and great gearing for the trail :D

Why narrow it? To keep up with the Jeeps I normally wheel with :flipoff2:

The biggest reason it got narrowed is that I rolled into the bars on the entrance to Indy (that picture) and almost ripped off the passenger fender, and the exit obstacle smashed the radiator support all the way to the radiator. Since I'm not going to waste money on sheetmetal, I just chopped both sides to match.

I don't buy the "keep-up with heeps" comment. I'm sure you are outwheeling them now unless they have all the mods too. Good Work Foo! Gained trail clearance and lost weight!:smokin:

I like this old saying: "You either get a jeep and swap in fullsize running gear or get a fullsize and beat it down on the trails to jeep size." I say cut down the fullsize, tube it to make it last, and survive a flop or roll.

Looks like you went with snow plow lights up front, I considered that.

what kind of leaf springs are ya running?

In those pics they were stock rear bronco leafs front and rear. Since that pic I've removed the 2" blocks I had on there and the stock front hangers which were at each end on the rear leafs with Sky hangers front and rear. I added two F150 leafs which stabilized the ride substantially. In the front I ended up bending a main leaf so I replaced the main leafs with F350 main leafs and removed the overload leaf. So I'm currently running a 4 leaf pack up front and a 7 leaf pack in the rear. The ride is much more stable than it was in the pics above now.

Here are some pics of my '92 Bronco. Was my DD for many years and then we took her to URE and that was all she wrote. I have been wrenching on her for a couple of years -- threatened to sell her and took her back stock. Now there's no looking back -- We just rebuilt the 351 W, removed the doors, top, tailgate and made a new gate that is more functional-- we put the exo cage on and made tube doors. The newest upgrade is the 'pane system which worked like a charm this past weekend. I love my Bronco and probably wouldn't trade it for a jeep if someone dropped one in my yard -- (well, maybe not):p

hay i like that bronco, that exo is like the one i want to build:mad3:
Thanks, my hubbie and I built it and then painted it with 96 cent wal-mart paint. He says I have to have a cage like that to stand up to all the trees I hit

We are going to run it inside so I can put my racing seats in. Also so we can make a handle for the spotters.
