I have a question to ask. I have a 77 ford f150 4x4. I want to keep the coils and swap in a dana 60. The problem is I have a 87 dana 60. I know it would be alot easier to get a 78-79 axle with the longer short side axle. So my question is has anyone done a swap with coils on one of these axles? Is it a total pain in the ass? Thanks

your going to need to build different mounts for your radius arms to attach to the housing, get creative

I know I would need the axle wedges. I was just hoping to see some pics or suggestions from some one that had done. Thanks

Blown...Its not all that hard...Just ALOT of measuring & Grinding of the Wedges... Believe me,Take the wedges & get them machined at a machine shop...Unless you have the time & equiptment to do it...
Only thing you need to worry about is the steering & from what Im told here the F-150/78 79 Bronco stuff will work....

buzz its a different truck. I'm just looking to throw together. I have all the parts to do it. 390 np435, 205 hi pinion 60 5.13 gears locked, 14 bolt detriot disk brakes, 44" swampers. Probably looking to do a 1/4 eliptic on the rear and coils in the front. Just something to have some fun in.
The linked and blown truck is still being put together. I scraped my old idea and I have started a tube frame for it. I'm looking to get some rockwells for it as well. And possibly some tractor tires.

Cool, hopefully 5 tons:D the 2.5's won't last long with a BB and or a heavy right foot.

I'm going to try to run the 2.5 tons with the 2" shafts, and the super 8 conversion on them. I blew up my 514 engine in the truck so I building a new motor as we speak. I have the majority of the parts to put a full roller 545 cid stroker together. I will probably run that till funds become availiable for the blower motor.
I looked around on those links and did find some useful info. It looks like I will either have to build some custom mounts or 5 link it. Thanks for the imput fellas.

you cant mount wedges on a newer style housing , not enought room for it on the drivers side, I used a housing out of a 79 f350, plenty of room on the drivers side. Bronco graveyard has the wedges for around $70 I believe.

That is what I figured. I have not seen any pics of it done. I searched around but to no avail. SO that is why I started this thread to see if anybody had figured something out to use the radius arm. No biggy a 5 link will work just fine.
