Here's the skinny... You'll find my project under "homebuilt SG 3-link". I'm trying to decide on shock mounting options with 3" RTE springs on a shortened D90 chassis (88" wb). I just stripped a 92-93 Rangie County and have those shock mount brackets in hand. The rear mounts are fine, by my thinking, as I can locate custom lower brackets easily so I need not drop the upper brackets (input here anyone?).
The front is where I'm indecisive. I could use the rangie mounts in the stock forward location, mount them behind the coil springs or nix those options and just use shock towers (or hoops) and locate the shocks within the coils.
While I'm here let's also talk about bumpstop extensions and shock selection (no high dollar remotes here as it would be a waste for my use). What have you got for me?
Since I have a blank canvas here I'm looking for viable suggestions.

What about a custom hoop and mount the lower onto the rad arm?

I have considered this. I believe this is common in Ford trucks with the lower mount on the radius arm. The stock RR piece could be used (very easy) or I could fab a similar mount. If I don't use an internal shock I don't see the advantage of a hoop and it's cost. With the shock mounted behind I get less damping effect than out front though. Mounted out front, the issue would be potential shock damage from impact but the rover engineers didn't see this as a problem (not that ALL of their ideas have been good :D ).

If you have a shiteload of front travel (12"+) it is hard to use front shocks inside the coils in the stock location, you'll bend them around the frame under extreme extension. The stock setup also makes it difficult to retain the springs and get the full benefit of your new found flex. Go external. In front of the spring works fine.

After a suggestion from Dave White in UK I opted for twin cheap shocks on radius arm in my yellow one. Twin to counter the reduced efficiency. Pro Comp ES9000 are cheap and value for money here. If one get busted, just replace, with twin install it's unlikely for both to die.
