What is the ideal wheelbase for a scout II? I have stock now but would like to keep everything inside the way it is and lengthen the wheelbase a bit. Any ideas?

Cut the frame and tub in half right in front of the front seats and stretch it exactly 6.3784 inches, then it will be perfect!:flipoff2:

I've stretched a Scout 800A as much as 4" in the wheelbase, and it seems to work fine. About 2" on each end, by a reverse shackle out front and new spring mounts (and springs) in the back for the other 2". If you don't mind tubbing the rear out a bit, you could move the rear axle back on the SII of course.

Wait a minute, didn't Fat City just get done with that rig? And now you want to move things again already? I know the 118" wheelbase is a bit long for a lot of rock stuff, but then Hayraker doesn't seem to object so who knows??? I think you'll always be able to find a ledge that just *exactly* matches your wheelbase, no matter what you do. This is why I propose the variable wheelbase Scout, with telescoping frame rails and corrugated expansion joints in the floor, to adjust the wheelbase to whatever is needed for that particular obstacle.

Is there something wrong with your 100"?

I was at 102 (or was it 103:confused: ) before the current mods. Here is last year:

I thought that's why we all got scouts in the first place, because they ALL have the PERFECT wheelbase. If I ever stretch mine it's gonna be to 109"

I'd adjust it to about 100"..

yes FatCity just got done with it but i want to try one or two comps next year and am changing a lot. Dual shackles front and rear, four link rear triangulated three link front, ff14 bolt d60, 39.5 boggers. Departure angle sucks. Would like to go with 105"-110".

That's the one thing that sux about Scout II's..the departure angle. Sounds like you don't want to bob it. If you are going with 39.5's, that will help it dramatically. Why don't you slap on a set of tires and then see if you need to lengthen it. I personally wouldn't go beyond 105" no matter what. Especially if you plan on competing

Should be easy with a fuel cell already.

Just cut out the wheel tubs.

Install some 40" tubs with the front edge in the stock location, and the rear edge back 10" from stock.

Move the axle back 5" and call it a day.

I presume the shock x-member is gone already.. if not, it might have to go. Fab up a new one forward of the old and you can lay the shocks down front to back to get some travel out of 'em.

Move the axle back with an offset center pin in the springs and/or in the perches.. of course, if you're going 4-link.. that's easy enough.

The shock mount as you can see is still intact. All that was suggested will be a challenge due to the limited space. Can rework the shock mounts and cooler rack but the tub job may be a problem.

Don't those side bars make it kind of tough getting in and out? Seems like it might be better to add one more bar, across the top of the X to make a level line to slide in over, stock car style?

Ooops.

I don't see any better way to stretch the wheelbase - to the rear - without moving the wheel tubs back, or raising the body to the sky...

Has the powder-coat even dried on the 'cage yet? Break out the grinder n' plasma cutter.. :D

Real easy to get in and out of. Guess i'll just say fawk it and keep it the same and add the axles anyway.

37s and up, extend it, 37 and down, 100" is fine. Snoop is currently 102.5" and I'm going to spread it a little more after the 4-link rear and 3-link front. I'm running 38s and I'd like to see about 104-105.

I am putting One of My scouts on a Travelette frame 166" wheel base. Should provide a smooth trail rid and will be able to tow jeeps down the trail after they break. We all know how smooth they ride so why not. Should be an easy project. Just streach the body a bit add some 16 guage and call it good. I think I may run the 27 front and 30 rear for ground clearance reasons. Some 20" beadlock rims with 58" combine tires from a buddys farm in Eastern Washington and call it good.
