Hey i have an 88 inline 6 and the motor is gone but my buddy has a 91 cherokee that hes been parting and the engine and transmission from that are still strong and he had both rebuilt 15,000-20,000 ago. My question is what would it take to swap the 91 I6 motor in to my 88 cherokee? Any help is greatly appreciated

Well to start with if you do the swap get the whole wiring harness and computer. Is the 91 set up for the same tranny configuration you have(manual or auto???)?? This could be important. If it isn't you will have to find a ECM that controls your manual or auto tranny. Not really a problem but could cost some $$$.
All in all it is a good swap in my opinion because the 91 and newer are the "High Output" engines. If I'm not mistaked the 88 had a carb on it?? Right?? 91 and newer has multi-port fuel injection.
You can do searches for 4.0L swaps online and here on Pirate and find everything there is to know about doing it. Lots a people have done it and are very happy with the decision.
Good luck to ya.
