: Whats The Lowdown About A Yota T Case?
4x4man 04-08-2002, 09:01 PM a friend gave me a 80 yota 4x4. the body is shot and half the engine is in the seat. i put the axles out of in under my zuki. the tranny is shot,,but the t case seems good. whats the ups and downs to this t case? whats the going price for an adapter to bolt it to a th350 tranny? i really dont like the 208 in my zuki. any help wuld be appriciated.
Ups
Strong
4.7:1 gear set avaliable
Easily adapted to a TH350For about $500-$800
Can be doubled or tripled or how ever many you wany for a even greater reduction
Downs
NONE!
4x4man 04-08-2002, 09:17 PM what gears are in it now? and what would one be worth if i wanted to sell it?
right now it has 2.28 gears and it is gear driven while your 208 i think has 2:1 gears and it is chain driven, Both are Aluminum tho. going rate im not sure but i will take it from you for $50 bucks
BTW how do you like those LTBs?
4x4man 04-08-2002, 09:32 PM dont know ,they are laying in my back yard with water in them, brand new:rolleyes: ,,,,,i should get to slappping on my lift for the ranger this weekend,,,,,,,,,,,ill let ya know how they do
liveaxle 04-09-2002, 02:01 AM pros:
light
pretty strong
gear driven
dual cases
low range gear sets
lots of adapters
common/easy to get parts
cons:
not the beafiest t-case ever made
not the greatest stock low range

And just how many Tcases out there stock have a lower range? Most fullsize cases are 2:1 that I have seen...

only t case that I have seen that is 2-1 is np205 and 200..
208 is 2..72 -1
203 is 2.62 - 1
231 is 2.62 - 1
241 again 2.62
on and on
most borg warners are in the 2.6 or 2.7 range as well..
stock yota cases are decent but IMO if you are only planning on running ONE case run somthing else (UNLESS of course you run the 4.7 gear set)
Brandon 04-09-2002, 10:19 AM I got one behind my NP435 and HO 5.0 and will soon have one behind my SM420 and 225 once I get the marlin adapter.
Lots of options for em..

LT230 (and every other 2 speed Rover case)
NP231
NP203
NP208
Dana18
Dana300
Now to combat your next line of attack Mr Argumentative, why did you even mention fullsize cases? I made no reference to fullsize cases.
Umm the NP203 has a 2:1 first gear, not any better than a toy in that case, the 208 is chain driven so is the 231 and the 241 which is weaker in my eyes. Stock the 20 and 300 cant have much better than 2.5:1 or so. the only other case worth a shit is the land cruiser case but it is full time and both outputs are on the pass side, but it does have a dif lock so it isnt that bad and it would be a good swap into a zuk but not a regular rig with a centered rear axle.
Also a 241, 208, 205, 200 and 203 are all full size case's
fcfred 04-09-2002, 04:45 PM why are you still running a centered rear axle?;)

why not. offset rear ends just give ya one more d-shaft angle to deal with.
TrailRunnr pretty much summed it up - the 203 is NOT lower, and the majority of the others are IMHO *far* inferior chain driven cases...
So if you wanna compare weaker cases with lower ratios - be my guest... but it seems kinda silly to me :p
So to be more clear - what cases have lower ratios that would be comparably as strong as the Toy case?
But aside - the options for Toy cases are the best part. dual or tripple cases are commonplace, stock 2.28 low ratio, replacement gear options of 4.0 and 4.7....
Tons of options!
fcfred 04-09-2002, 05:39 PM I'm all for the toyota case
I'm just playing devils advocate
but if you want a stronger lower range case go with the lt-230 and get an off set rear axle

jeep and scout 20 = 2to1
d300= 2.62to1

The Isuzu Tcase is one. It is very strong and 2.7:1 stock.
For adaptability to various axles and transmitions and in stackability the Toy will win of course. 3.07:1 Terra gears available are the lowest available too. But that wasn't your question!
high5 thanks for the info, so the dana 300 is a better cast iron T-case.
Shrock WTF can a isuzu case be mated to except another isuzu tranny?? and it can only get 3.07:1 low range, that sucks i bet it also has a chain and planetarys right?
Just get the toy case or a few and run them.

I see them all the time on BBS's and mailing lists online going for $250-$350... As a matter of fact I bought one in that price range off here on PBB a while back ;)

Re-read the question I was responding to...and my answer.

no and no
mobil1syn 04-10-2002, 01:17 AM i remember a while back someone commenting on a ford 9 blowing up before a stock toyota t-case. many people on the toyota board run them with 5.7, 4.3 chevy's without any problems. and like the others have said ... 4.7:1 is the lowest gearset i have seen around. and if your plannin on using it in your suzuki you should have no problem with it failing under normal comditions. by this i mean taken care of and using it. im sure if you try hard enough you could get it to break.
TOYOTA IS GOOD.
liveaxle 04-10-2002, 02:13 AM I'm going to divert this thread a little bit and ask the question, what t-case is stronger, a 21 spline Toyota or a Dana300?
:)
4x4man 04-10-2002, 04:19 AM well,,,all i got to say is that i HAD the zuki case in it.the first time i drove it i gave it about 1/2 throttle and snapped the side off the case. this lil 4.3 has some major ass

the 300 would be stronger because the input is 23 splined but if you would compare the turbo 23splined t-case to the dana 300 t-case the toyota case would be "as strong, if not stronger" and the alum. case will disipate heat better and will work better under "fatege" conditions. plus with the " price wars going on in the toyota market you can find the 4.7s for a reasonable price.
