: Out with the 400, in with the 460. Couple of ?'s
NECKSTER 04-08-2002, 09:31 PM 1980 F-350, 4x4, 400/C6. I'm taking out the 400, and putting in the 460 that is in my 1985 F-250, 2x4, 460/C6. I assume the bellhousings are the same, but I don't know for sure. What about stuff like exhaust? Do you guys know if it will bolt up to the 460? That's all I can think of right now. I'm sure there is more though.
Thanx, Neck

Yep itll bolt right up to that tranny...
How were you planning on doin the engine mount?
Dont waste $$ on an L&L swap kit, just go get double stud frame mounts off a junkyard machine, pop tghe rivits offf the 400 mounts, they should bolt right up..
Now this is true only if the 350 frame crossmember is the same as a Bronco...
And, if you need a rear sump oil pan let me know..
Chad
NECKSTER 04-09-2002, 12:08 AM So even though the motor mounts look the same (as well as I can see in there), they are not?
Chad H 04-09-2002, 12:35 AM Usually the 400 has single stud motor mounts, and the 460 has double stud mounts.. At least that was the case in both my 400/460 swaps...
Guess it may be different on a f350...
NECKSTER 04-09-2002, 09:19 AM BTW- I drove by your place the other day.... Your rig isn't looking so hot. What happened?
Chad H 04-09-2002, 02:44 PM Which Rig?

Dustball 04-10-2002, 11:40 PM 460 rubber mounts and frame bracket for TTB crossmembers

Chad H 04-10-2002, 11:44 PM Boo Yah.......
ha now compare that to the L&L Crap they sell.. Tiny rubber bushing and single stud, and very thin metal..Crap........
Go to Ford last resort to get those mounts, not too expensive actually
NECKSTER 04-11-2002, 01:52 AM Well, since I had both trucks here to work with, I just took the mounts off of each frame and transferred them to the other. Piece of cake. I did however have to notch the passenger frame rail for the exhaust manifold to clear, and I had to notch the crossmember for the the oil filter. Other than that, it was a pretty easy swap.
Actually, what I did was swap cabs, beds and motors between two trucks. I had a really clean 85 with a 460, but it was only 2 wheel drive. I had a 80 4x4 with a 400, but the body was pretty rough. So, I put the good stuff on the 4x4 chassis, and made on really good truck. Then I will have an ok 2 wheel drive truck that will probably make someone a good work truck or dump runner.
Chad H 04-11-2002, 12:55 PM Awesome sounds like it went smooth.....Stop by some day Trev
NECKSTER 04-11-2002, 09:25 PM Ok, I'm all done. The only other mods I had to make were to switch the proportioning valves between the two, and I had to switch the wiring plugs that attach the tail light/fuel gauge/fuel switch wires from the firewall to the frame. It probably would have been easier to just take the harnesses off of the frame, but oh well. I also had to switch the speedo cables.
Boy, I am glad to be done with that.
Chad, maybe I'll go for a test drive sometime next week and swing by your place. When are you around?
Nobody 04-11-2002, 10:14 PM damn Neck, you work fast....
Yeah Chad, when are you around. I guess it's time I take my ass over to the west side and introduce myself..
NECKSTER 04-11-2002, 10:45 PM Actually, I had quit driving the 460 truck cause it had almost no oil pressure, and the rear main was leaking really bad. It also had a mysterious water leak somewhere that I couldn't find. So while the 460 was out, I replaced the oil pump and rear main, and I finally found the water problem. It had 2 freeze plugs that were leaking a little bit, but both were ready to completely blow out. So now she has no leaks, and at a cold idle she has 75 psi oil which drops to about 60 after she is warmed up and I'm cruisin around. Also put 2.5 inch exhaust with a flowmaster. So not only is she running good, but sounds alot better now too. :D
Oh yeah, also did freeze plugs in the 400 while it was out too.
Chad H 04-12-2002, 01:06 AM I should be finishing my Bronco by the weekend..
Biggest problem I had was this new shell had efi Wiring, so i had to swap all the wiring, dash removal sucks....
I need to find some new front fendrs and core support from a 93-95 Ford, know of any? I like that look alot better than the 86.....
As far as when am I home? Im on Vacation for 3 weeks so all day :o)
