I have a 1979 Jeep J-20 truck with a 4 inch lift double shocks in front but iam going to put iether a body lift, orim trying to find another in-expensive way to get like 3-inches of more fender clearance to fit bigger tires... alittle more articulation wouldent hurt iether, if you have any suggestions please lemme know thanks!!!:smokin:

1-2" BL and then trim that sucker the rest of the way.

Forget the BL - trim it... Sawzall

But i still want to keep it street legal, if i trim it all of would that cause some sorta lame violation?

depends - check your local laws. If you trim use the $ you were going to throw at a BL at a set of flares instead to cover the raw cuts. I think JC whipme sells some generic trim type material.

Trimmin won't necessarily cause it to be illegal. That also depends on how you trim it. As long as the tires are covered you are cool. You might want to look at some of the bushwacker fender flares that are designed to cover up cut fenders. At least they would cover the tires.

My Willys has technically been illegal on this point for over 10 years and I have never received a ticket for it. knock-on-wood :D

yea, i have a body lift already, but body lifts are alot of work to put on, all i have on the truck right now is a superlift 4 inch lift with rancho RSX9000, and i just need some more clearance, i think i might do the bodylift and sawzall them and get some fender flare type ones from bushwacker or something

Eh - don't spend the money on new big dollar flares. Go to the junkyard - pull some flares off of an unsuspecting full size p/u or suv - drill holes and pop rivet them on - maybe paint them first if you are feeling funky.

really - you should be legal if you trim a few inches of fender.

yea ill prolly be legal im trying to keep the body stock, so maybe if i do the bodylift ill be okay but if i get some rubb'in i will get to cutt'in :smokin:

J-truck and all FSJ front fenderwells go almost to the hood. You can cut the bitch THAT HIGH and have no problems. Or run M715 style fender flares to be legal if nessisary

and body lifts are gay :flipoff2: a full size jeep does NOT need a body lift seeing as there is more than enough to cut away :p

bodylifts are the best way to get clearance without cutting up my nice body :flipoff2:

If the nice body is all that important why ask for a inexpensive way to get more lift :shaking:

Trimming it is your cheapest option...a BL is not gonna help anything with "flex" nor will it get the mall hawttie in yourt ride...

if you want a cheap lift throw on some lift blocks - any auto parts store sells those :rainbow: blocks - 2-3" too or you can add another leaf to the sprign pack - that will limit your articulation though...

oh yeah...a BL is :rainbow:

i dont know why you guys think bodylifts are so gay, i have a 4 inch superlift and i dont want to mess my body, and im going to do the bodylift right im not going to have any gaps between the frame and body and im going to lift the bumpers and stuff to look all legit, i need a bunch of clearance anyways, im going from 33" BFgoodrich A/T to BFgoodrich 37" MudTerrians

how? are you going to fill in the gaps or something? (cause that's what a bl does... puts a bigger gap between the body and the frame)

i am also curious as to how you are going to lift the bumpers.

be careful... 4" lift + bl + 37" tires = your center of gravity might be getting a little high

i had a j-10 with a 4 inch lift. i cleared 42 hawgs with no problems after the sawzall.

i do remember being able to trace the factory "flare" and turned it into a very easy, clean job.

cuting the fenders doesn't mean hack your rig up, it can be done right, especially on that truck,
