Finished my cage a few weekss ago, just wondering what your guy's opinions are on it, good or bad, just want some input. The whole cage is 2" tubing with .120 wall. mandrel bent. The plates that mount to the floor are on the underside also connected to the frame.

One more and one of the 5 1/4 " speaker mounts and dome light mount.

It does look very clean and probably effective but since you asked for opinions I'll give you my .02

I would still add some sort of X or /\ behind the seats. I'm also not a big fan of how you mounted the spreaders. I would have triangulated you spreaders into something like \l/. This is just what I would do,

i will aggree on this and dis-aggree on this.. i think your design is fine if your protecting yourself from a possible but not probable rollover. meaning a wheelin, camping, daily driveing rig that your not PLANNING on rolling ... this is how i originally planned my cage and it works just fine.
(recreational wheeling so to speak) now, there are others on this board who plan on driving their rigs to the limit and beyond and expect to flop/roll at least once on each trip. if you plan on wheeling this way then i would add a diagonal as reccomended to the b-pillar behind the seats. when i redo my cage next winter this is what im planning on doing with mine. basically my use of the rig has changed to the latter more aggressive style driving. i think in a multiple rollover your cage will be fine but may suffer damage. the alternative is no cage and dead so i think your fine with what you have so long as it suites your intent and driving style...

im going to stop babbleing now.....

Cage looks good. I would caution a couple of things

If you are going to run a bikini top, make sure that the dome light mounting screws and speakers don't abrade the top.

How do your feet like where the A pillar hits the floor? I always had an issue with this design.

Also, will you ever run hard doors again? If so, does the window crank clear the A pillar?

What is the purpose of the small tubing at each corner? I would make sure that if the front ones can be reached by your passenger that they can't get their hands crushed if they grab on to them in a roll.

Thanks for the input so far, I am building the cruiser for wheeling, hunting, and driving on the road, I had thought about puting an x bar behind the seat but i didnt want it to be in the way. I dont plan on rolling it but does happen, So i came up with this design. like Chris said, no cage= dead. just as long as it saves my ass once it has done its job. As far as leg room, there is plenty, and there is clearance for the window cranks too. i took all that into concideration when building. Trent, the deck cover i made was just going to be for spare parts and tools, but i have decided to make a custom gas tank to go under it right behind the seats, and have the filler neck come through the wood and connect to the stock one on the side. i figured it out i think i can stuff around 22 gallons in there and still have room for all the spares.

Thanks again for your input guys, even the negative, i wanna hear it all. Kodi

I like it, but I must agree with what has been said before, put some sort of cross bar for extra protection. What kind of seats/seat belts are you planning on running. Because now, after looking at it again, I would say make some hoops that come up behind the seats for 4-pts (if that's what your running) and then weld some tube between them and the other parts of the cage for support. that way you could reach back and not whack your head, and still have some extra support, at least for the seats.

Trent, my father had been wanting a 40 for a while now, and i wanted to change so much on mine, and he liked it the way it was, but he would never commit to say he would buy it, so i bought a stock one and started on it, then we agreed on a price. so now i only have just this one, and i am trying to get it done already (well you know how the word done works) so i can get wheeling already.

i am running a set of 3" simpson lap belts that hook the cage/seat mounts.

looks good kody. put in some X or ^ and you're even better.

as far as the gas tank goes, why not put one under the rear of the frame like the aftermarket auxillary tanks? it'll hold plenty of extra fuel, the weight will be down low and you won't loose any of your precious cargo area.

i just dont like how they hang down past the rear bumper. seems like they would jus get pounded all the time.

I dig the cage. I also dig those gas tanks. I want one. too bad their so expensive they might as well be a million dollars.
Whats your plans for the speakers? That is a killer idea. Are you putting covers behind them, etc? They may not sound very good and be prone to damage without. I am in the planning stages of making speaker mounts up there for my cage. But more along the lines of a heep sound bar.

cheers!
Dustin

well i kinda screwed myself on putting a gas tank under the seats, i built my cage like a few inches shorter then the stock roll bar hoop, and by the time i mount the under seat tank and the seats my head is in the roll cage, im 6'4. so its kinda all crunched up, so thats why i am making a tank in the back. i think it will come out great and still have tons of room, a whole lot more room then my last cruiser thats for sure. oh and speakers my buddie in woodland owns a audio shop and he found me a set of speakers that work well not in a box. they are diamond audio, kinda pricey though, but they are HO marine speakers, so they can get a little wet. Chris did you build that or buy it? Our shop has recently acquired a tig :smokin: welder and i was thinking about building one or ten if there is any one else interested. Also how many gallons does it hold.

Aaron, i took your advice on making one like yours and trents aux tank. I was staring at my cruiser today for about an hour trying to come up with an idea. Im set on making one under the back, the lenth and width of the floor. I will have to cut out the crossmember/shock bar, but i dont think that will be too much of a strength factor, you guys havnt had a prob without it??? I drew up a quick thing , is my volume formula right??, havnt done it in a while. Kodi

i make everything out of cardboard FIRST.. cheaper and easier. then transfer to metal. i made this one with the use of a friends shear and brake. (BIG shear and brake) tig was done by me.. internal volume is just over 6000 cubic inches. 26.22 gallons. i should be able to get 25 heavy in it at least. check my build for details including the sump and pickups..
