Has anyone put a 250 steerinf box into a early bronco? I have a steering bow out of a 77 4x4 f250 and I have heard of people doing the swap. Anyone out there done that?

Is it a 2WD or 4WD box? And if it's 4WD, then is it a 77 Highboy or 77.5 Lowboy?

Got a pic of that box?
Is it the same box from a 78/79 4x4 bronco?

A steering box out of a 78-78 Bronco or F-150 will fit with a part changed.
Check out BC Broncos tech part for pics and write up.

Do a search on ClassicBroncos.com...there is a lot of information there about using a 2wd box and a 4wd box... I can't remember exactly.. I just called Matt at West TX Offroad and got a built Scout box for my 70 Bronco.

thanks for the help. Its a 4 wheel drive box, not a highboy so must be the 77.5? mounts on the other side of the frame and so either the frame would have to be notched or some sort of adapter mount made, im not sure. I will try to get some pics...

I don't think there is enough room to put a box inside the frame rail..the radiator, pullies etc get in the way.. The Scout box I got looks identical to the Bronco box, except the mounting holes are swapped....but my frame was busted anyway, so I just put new steel and drilled new holes.. Got the box rebuilt with the heavy duty internals and a 6 month warr for about $280 if I remember right..

You can use the 2wd box with the wild horses bracket, working fine on my 71, but you need like 4"+ of lift because of how low the pitman is. I think you want the f150/big bronco box, with crossover steering, then you have to put the 2wd guts into it so it spins the right way, then mount it outside of the frame with the pitman behind it. If I'm wrong on this, please correct me, I've already started gathering parts for my 66.

the 2wd box is a crappy idea because it mounts inside the frame rail, making an already short drag link even shorter, causing horrendous bump steer. There's several far better, simpler solutions these days.

Im not sure what the 70s F250 box looks like, but alot of people are swapping in the 78/79 Big Bronco, and F150 box. Ive done the swap and its easy and cheap. You do need the internals out of a 80s Ford SUV/Truck box. It doesnt matter if its 4wd or 2wd.

Why do you need the internals out of an 80's box?

Because the 78/79 BB and F-150 4x4 box turns the wrong direction. Left would be right and right would be left. If you swap the worm gear out of a 2WD box into the 4x4 box, then it turns the correct direction for an EB install.

I run a 78 bronco box and leave the pitman arm facing forward but move the box back to the spring tower. it works great and is much stronger than the eb boxs which I have broke several of. in the near future I will be moving frt diff forward about 4 " and I will not have to deal with the steering since it is already forward enough. at this time I get no bump steer at all but then I only have about 1.5 inches lift

Yeah my original mounting spot on the frame is messed up also so I will be trussing that part of the frame. Where did you get the box rebuild at? I do think you right about there being not enough room on the other side of the frame...

I have several 78-79 bronco 4x4 boxes. Some stock not rebuilt, some rebuilt, some reversed and also have a bracket that bolts to the frame without drilling or welding. Pm me if interested.
