: Still have the Rover...but getting into the affordable world of SAMMI

Hey Guys,

I'm Slider...Still have the flexi LR Disco trail rig...

but I'm so amazed at the affordability of the SAMMI world...

I've been reading this forum for about 2 weeks...and well, don't tell the wife, but I just picked up a stock, running, 1988 soft top...
SEEMS SO UNDERPOWERED? I don't even know...I think it's a 1.3L...what years did they put in what?

AND...I really only bought it because I found an 87 soft top in the woods...good for parts...Will be towing that out with the ROVER soon.

Also, here in the northeast, I have yet to even see a Sammi trail rig.

So Far...
- this seems like a good place to stay...
- you all seem to really know what your talking about.

My Plan...
- to create a trail rig with maybe about 4" of susp. lift? not body.
- some thing with-out doors...
- get a bit more power out of that little motor...header? carb?
- get some flex into it, but I'll be on road about 60% of the time...so there's the vibration, wiggley, disapointed passenger (wife) issues??!!
- don't think I'll go all the way to 31" wheels
- probably the transfer case gear reduction though.

I've got some research to do here, obviously....

SO here's your chance to HAZE yet another Newbie!!

See you all often!!

Here's what I learned (http://www.azrockcrawler.com/_images/howtobuildit/howto.html) after 2 years of ownership.

That's a pretty cool right up. I have to agree with your statement of locking the front up first. Lots of people disagree but it was what I did and I loved it. You gotta do another update for the 6:1 gears though.:D

My write up is based on actual usage and comparison. I can comment on the 6.1's after I spend a week in Moab with them :D I also have to change the first paragraph, even though my 35's are more like 33's.

welcome newbie see you found the place. I would love a cheap sami too. That way I won't get crap from the wife if I wreck it like I do with the rovers

where in CT did you find a sami in the woods???? I am in Windsor Locks right next to Bradley airport. I havent seen any other built up samis either, they are rare around here, you should see the looks I get! I am building my second one, my first one is in the garage waiting on its suspension to arrive (going on 9 months!). I am upgrading to Land Cruiser axles also. I am gonna stick to 31's on the second one to keep it simple (and cheap!)

I'm in the Waterbury area...
Drop me an Email and we'll hit the trails sometime...

This Sammi thing will be an interesting endeavor...
There is also a few junk yards around here...with some parts from 86 87 & 88's...very few good parts left though...let me know and I'll keep an eye out for parts that you might need

slider, at the end of the summer we put on a samurai event in western Mass, its a blast. Last year we had about 20 samurais ranging from stock to extream. Hopefully you can make it this year.

$20 gets you the privilege (that's what the little red stars beside some members names is all about).

Maybe just email it to me? Send me a private message.

If any one else want to see it I can upload it.
