: 205 shift rail removal

First let me say I have used the search with good results and read every article that people have referred to in the search.

I am twin sticking a Dodge divorced 205. I have removed the bolt with the ball and spring. I've also removed the freeze plug and knocked the pin out holding the shift fork on.

My problem is the shift rail wont come out of the case. It moves a little bit and stops cold. I've sprayed the area around the shift rail with carb cleaner to clean out road grunge and rust. I can spin the shift rail up and down about 30 degrees. The shift fork slides back and forth easily. When I look down the hole where the spring and ball was I can see two notches on the rail (roughly 5/32") showing. I've tried putting a punch down through the bolt hole on the range rail shaft and slapping it with a small bronze hammer to break it loose. Still nothing.

Can anyone give me some advice?

Thanks

Jeff

hewl35 I will assume you had both shift rails all the way in when you removed the falt piece that connects them together.. If that is the case you will need to pull the second shift rail out about 1/2 inch so the interlock ball will allow the first shaft to slide out.. if you need more help you can call me at 806-878-2854

Russ,

Got the whole thing put back together and twin shifting.

Now installing it is going have to wait until I have a overdrive to go with it.

I hope you have an easier time finding an overdrive than I have had finding a tranny for my project.. I have just about decided to go with a NP435 till I find the A535/NP2500/NV2500..
