: Tranny Cooler Lines
Stuckle 04-06-2006, 04:28 PM The douche Bag that installed my 700r4 a couple months ago cross threaded my cooler lines. Iv replaced one and now the other one is leaking. Is there anything i can put on the lines like telfon tape or anything that will help seal up the threads and stop the leak?
nothing worse that doing a trail and all your atf leaking out in 10 minutes there leaking so bad...and finishing the trail with no atf in your tranny cause you left the bottle at the botttom:mad3:
GMCTruxrule 04-07-2006, 12:09 AM Is the cross threaded line going into the tranny or into the radiator? If its going into the radiator, you could either pull the rad, take it to a shop and have a new fitting brazed into the tank OR you could buy and external cooler and run it seperate from your radiator.
If the cross thread is going into your transmission, there should be a fitting that the line screws into that can be replaced.
Or you could use JB weld

X2
The bottom line is like 48" long and the top is like 60" long.
surpip 04-10-2006, 03:39 AM can you buy the lines prebent?
or is it better to cut-bend-flare your own?
mine are jacked up to, the fittings are rounded, took vice grips to get them off
77'/85'scottspecial 04-10-2006, 05:42 PM -6AN braided ss lines are even easier to install on a truck that is already put together with tight spaces...
Hanr3 04-10-2006, 07:39 PM Who sells the braided lines, and how much do they cost?
I bought straight line, they have the fittings, you just need to bend them up.
77'/85'scottspecial 04-10-2006, 07:45 PM I just bought two 6 ft pieces of the line from summit. I'm not sure how much it was but it wasn't too bad if you buy the summit brand parts. It was just a lot easier for me to run the flexible line. I can check it out if you are interested.
Here is a pic of the parts I installed...

Hanr3 04-11-2006, 08:05 PM Damn, I didn't even know they sold it. I'll have to look it up in my catalog.
Thanks.
New tranny dipstick tube, how did you screw up the last one?
77'/85'scottspecial 04-12-2006, 05:43 PM Didn't screw up the old one. It was rusted out from age and for a Th350. That one is for the new 700R4. Its a nice piece, looks like something from the factory with a locking top.

got specs on the cooler?
chris fresh 04-28-2006, 06:42 PM i ran an xternal cooler and used brass barb fittings in the side of the trans,as far as lines, went to nappa and had um give me 8 feet of 3/8 rubber fuel line off the roll, used hose clamps at the cooler and the trans, been great for three years and i beat the hell outta my small truck. whole set up i think cost me,29 for the cooler,6 or 8 bucks for the hose and clamps and a few bucks for the brass barbs, nice thing to is you can cut the hose yourself and route them away from anything hot or moving, tie wrap them up and your good
77'/85'scottspecial 04-29-2006, 07:02 AM HERE (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=FLX%2D3820%2D6&N=4294924500+4294888847+4294906626+400226+42948889 52+115&autoview=sku) is the cooler on summits website.
surpip 05-02-2006, 02:58 AM so anybody know the fitting needed for the rad. side?
mdill 05-02-2006, 10:34 AM just go get a new fitting from napa, they are cheap. not a big deal and if you have to bend new lines it only takes 15 minutes
maybe a stupid question but, where do you buy your raw
tubing stock that you use to bend up a set of lines ?
Mike D.
surpip 05-02-2006, 05:16 PM you can get it at just about any parts place
they will have the ends too
looking at the rad. fitting they look like 1/4 npt with a flare, figure i can just teflon tape the and fitting and it will seal ok
77'/85'scottspecial 05-02-2006, 05:47 PM They should be 1/2" 20 thread. The tranny lines are and since the fittings are the same on both ends, that should be what it is for the rad. Of course, 1/4" pipe is 20 threads per inch too, so people make it work. Hope it helps.
surpip 05-02-2006, 10:15 PM cool thanks
KILLER"B"3 05-03-2006, 10:51 AM Is it the brass fittings that are stripped? Or are the fitting to tight into the 700 case, causing it to crack? I have seen that before.
