I am looking into purchasing an adapter for my sm465 to mate it up to a Dana 300 t-case. I have checked Novak and Advanced Adapters. Does anyone know of any other companies that make an adapter for this application? Also, does anyone have any comments about Advanced Adapters or Novak, good or bad?
chev guys dont use D300s usually
better post this in Jeep

true, most Chevy guys don't use a dana 300 and that is why I posted it to the Jeep forum first. However, for the money, the strength and the gearing it is hard to beat, even for a Chevy.
Also, there is the off chance that someone on pirate has gone this route in their Chevy.

Probably easier to just use a 205. Dana 300 will cost more to transplant and you wil have to upgrade the output yoke when your stock one breaks off eventually. Just my opinion

yeah...I thought about using the 205 that is bolted up to it right now, but since I am going to want the lower gearing that the dana 300 provides then I figure I should do it right the first time. Besides, the dana 300 is pretty strong and in all my years of wheeling I have not seen one break it's output shaft when treated properly. Granted, it is possible, but when that time comes I will just have to upgrade to something else...maybe an Atlas II or something.

Nothing ever breaks when it's treated properly. But how many times is an off-road vehicle treated properly. I have personally seen 3 output shafts break on trucks with 35 inch tires and smaller. Advanced Adapters LArger output shaft kit P/N 50-3032 it's only 512 bucks. Or you can keep the 205 and the Tranny to T-case adapter is only a mere 525 bucks. Sounds like a lot to me.

The sm465 is going into a Jeep so the weight stresses that a fullsize truck has is not a consideration. Hell, I have tried to break the stock T-5 to give me an excuse to do the swap over to the sm465, but have had no luck. I bought it to tear the shit out of and so far every mod has been bomb proof. My motto is if it breaks make it stronger. So if the Dana 300 breaks I will make it stronger or get a stronger t-case.

your probably best off running the AA adapter and output shaft. their stuff always works well and in a rig like yours you should never have a problem. but when you add it all up (including the low gear set) you're getting pretty close to that atlas 2 pricetag!?:rasta:
just go back to the jeep forum.
a d300 is not strong enough, kinda why there is a market for atlas dontcha think?
i shattered a T5 in my car, they are far from bombproof.
considering they were origonally designed for Volvos they survive fairly well.
for the price of all the adapters you could put a doubled 205 and the lower gearing would be covered.
actually now i think of it the 6.56 first in the 465 times the 205 1.96 low is probably as low as your current T5 and 300.
jeep math is really pathetic. you guys like to spend $1000s on goofy adapters and rare old stuff to gain what can be had with off the shelf stuff.

The adapter for the sm465 is required to run the Atlas II as well as the Dana 300 so I won't be out any money there. True the math for the gearing with the sm465 and the 205 comes out to just about the same as the crappy T-5/dana 300 combo, but unfortunately that is not a low enough gear for me. Hopefully someday a dual t-case setup will be in order, but I am figuring on stretching the wheel base before then. But thanks for your ideas.
