I have a D300 short (1980) that I want to use in a YJ. I'm interested in suggestions on what speed sensors are available that would fit the screw-on speedo connection on that T-case. At this point I'm more interested in mechanical compatibility - the electrical output would be easier to compensate for tire size than fabbing a mechanical adapter between the T-case and a non-compatible sensor.
There appears to be more selection, including jeep parts, when using the long version of the D300, but would hate to give up the extra bit of rear drive shaft length just to get an easy speedo interface. I also don't want to get a CV drive shaft made up only to find I'm going to have a big developement project in front of me.
How have others using this case solved the problem?

1 of the 300's will take the one from a 231 won't it? Bolts right in and connects to the wiring in the YJ and TJ's.
Anyone confirm this?

you can get the speed sensor for an early 90's Dodge truck.. It screws on just like the speedometer cable and uses two wires to send the signal to the computer/speedometer..

I used the stock YJ speed sensor, the bottom half unscrews, then you can get a short speedo cable made to go from the t-case to the top half of the stock speed sensor.

You can also check Jags that run (http://www.jagsthatrun.com)...they have several VSS solutions.

It's my understanding from reading some D300 tech & rebuild manuals that the YJ & TJ sensors will fit the D300 long shaft T-case - this one doesn't have a screw-on cable attachment, it's got a bolt-down bracket that holds the whole assembly in place and apparantly the gear can be adjusted for wheel size to some degree.
I used a GM HAL sender and an autometer programmable speedo. Well, when I still cared. ;)
