what are the different spline counts for the input gear available for a np241?

also will a np231 input gear work with the np241 planetary assembly?

not sure,,but check out (i think its petersons 4 wheel and off road),,,,in this months issue,,they rebuild a 241. you should check it out,, it talks about spline count in there also,,but i just gave it a glimse,,didnt have time to read the full article

They said it would be 27 or 32 psline input.

Chevys would be 27 or 32, Dodges would be 23 or 29

The NP231 input gear is interchangeable. They came in 21 & 23 spline in the Jeep, 23 spline in the Dodge trucks. The auto version of the 231 in the Chevy was a 27 spline. I don't know about the manual.

Just be careful when interchanging, there are different length 23 spline shafts. Other spline count shafts may have different lengths also, I don't know just guessing based on the 23 spline shaft.

Another thing to look out for is the roller bearing inside the sun gear (input shaft) is a different diameter on some 241's.

One last tidbit: The 241HD case has a different input bearing configuration which is not compatible with other input shafts unless you find a narrow input bearing.
