well im on a job right now for a coil to leaf conversion and and its gettin down to the wire... tommorow i will rent a plasma cutter and i was wondering if it would be a good idea to run this comprossor with a hobart plasma... its a twin tank compressor with a 5 horse honda motor... im kinda puzzled as to if it will put out enough air to keep up with the plasma....

CFMs on that seem higher than most electrics (gas compressor always are). I think it said 9.8@90psi. How much air are you going to need for the plasma? What kind of compressor do you usually run it off of? That 5.5gal gas compressor puts out alot more air that my 33gal electric.

Most gas compressors will kick the shit out of a electric!

if it can't keep up just let it sit for a sec between cuts for the comp to pump up and shut back off.

you should be fine to do a job even if the comp. cfm is say even 30% to low for plaz, because when the air tank is full (or above the kickon psi for engine) it won't matter.

just don't keep cutting and let the comp run and run and run..cause that will get it hot( and likely run it so low on air that your plaz will cut shitty anyways.)

I don't really se it being an issue doing a jeep, cause there is no way your gunna cut very long at a time

My 5hp electric makes 20cfm and I garauntee its quieter:flipoff2:

Nah, but your right... Performance wise gas compressors kick some serious ass! The only problem is keeping them fueled up during the day.

Which Hobart plasma? As long as the cfm and pressure of the compressor is greater than the cfm and pressure needed by the plasma you are fine.

And my 5hp Quincy electric puts out nearly 20cfm at 120psi...

I have a 8hp gas with small dual horz. tanks, that i use over a 5 hp 60 gal tank compressor for high demand jobs. it is just bad ass. The plasma will most likely have a safety shut off if it doesnt have enough pressure supply. I have a hypertherm and it does. GOOD LUCK
